mothers hair while
she swings through
the trees
 When they are born
they are about 1 foot
tall.
How They Adapt to Their Environment?
Physical Adaptations
 Long arms that help
them swing through the
trees really fast
 Legs are shorter than
their arms so when they
swing they don’t get in
their way
 Their thumbs are short
so they can swing more
easily.
 Their feet look the
same as their hands so
that they can stand on
the branches.
How do they Act?
Behavioral Adaptations
They build nests and they curl
up in a ball so that they won’t
fall out of the tree.
They swing from tree to tree
so that they can travel farther
and faster
They will fight with each other
to get food. Such as grabbing
bananas from other apes.
To protect themselves from
humans they make scary
noises and show their sharp
teeth.
Physiological Adaptations
Sharp set of teeth to
break and eat nuts
Big mouth to hold
food
Really strong muscles
in their arms so they
can swing
Very good eyesight.
They can see far so
they know where to
get food or see
predators.
