During the American Civil
War the Confederate States
of America secceded from
the USA as a separate
entity.
On the 4th of March in 1865
the CSA flag (which was
known as the Stainless
banner) was slightly
changed – a red strip was
added.
Why?
1
It was changed
because the
Stainless flag in
the battlefield on a
windless day used
to look as the
white flag of
surrender.
2
Ancient
Greeks and
Romans kept their
food supplies in
the basements. A
thick layer of
sand used to be
poured out on the
floor of such
basements.
What purpose
this layer of sand was
used for?
2
It was used to hold such amphoras.
3
According to one book, this is a list of 100 the
most influential people in the world.
Why Tsai Lun is in this list?
3
Tsai Lun is the
inventor of paper.

Witch in the forest is preparing traps for
children’s sweet tooth. But xxx will visit her
sooner than the children.
Who will be those unwanted guests?

5
This is a sugarcane quern that was used in
plantations several hundred years ago. The
way they work has not changed ever since.
There was an axe near to the every quern.
What for?
5
It was used to chop the arms that
were pulled into the quern. Sadly, but it
was the only way to save slaves’ lives.
6
There are many ways in which you could use an old
vehicle…
For what purpose is this old car used for?
6
It was used to fool
the enemy forces.
It is a decoy tank,
made from old “Yugo”
vehicle. Yugoslavians
used such decoy tanks
during Balkan war in
1999.

This marker is located
at the top of the
mountain at the
border of Germany
and Austria. It
marks a special
point in the border
of these two
countries. There
are only three such
points in the world.
Please explain what is special about this
border point.
7
This is so
called
binational
quadripoint,
also known as
a border cross.
Each country
approaches
this point from
two opposite
sides.

Canadian senator Philippe
Gigantes was a writer who
has written fifteen books.
He involved himself in a
controversy when he had
read one of his books aloud
during a parliamentary
session in that way
disrupting the work of the
senate.
What expensive service he
attempted to get this way?
(according to his opponents)
8
The translation of his book into the
French language. As it is common in the
parliaments of the Westminster system,
in the Canadian parliament the
discussions are recorded in a public
journal called Hansard. As two
languages are official in Canada (English
and French), Hansard is published in
both languages (that is the English
proceedings are translated into French
and vice versa). And in fact the book was
translated by the interpreters of the
parliament and Philippe Gigantes
published it in French...

This is the picture of
the state of
Rondonia from the
space.
What humaninfluenced process
is visible here?
9
Deforestation. The state
of Rondonia is in the
northern region of Brazil.
The picture shows
clearings around main
and branching roads. In
the centre you can see
an intersection of main
roads. Smoke rises from
places where the wood
was set on fire.

After the congress of
Berlin in 1878, the
Ottoman empire was
forced to retreat from
most of Balkans.
New countries were
established in Romania,
Bulgaria, Serbia.
Why (according to a
legend), a small but
inhabitted island of Ada
Kale in Danube which was
far away from the new
Ottoman borders was left
fot Ottoman rule?
10
It was simply forgotten. In the Congress of
Berlin it was established that the border
between Romania and Serbia in that place goes
along Danube but it was forgotten that there is
this island in Danube, therefore it was not
mentioned and remained for the Ottomans. Ada
Kale became a part of Romania only in the
interbellum.
