Demonstrate knowledge of factors that impact on personal performance in physical
activities by:
Describing a method used to identify factors impacting on a performance
Describing the impact of two factors on a performance
Identifying a factor that affects a performance and describing an approach to develop this
Develop personal performance in physical activities by:
Identifying strengths and areas for development in a performance
Preparing and implementing, with some support, a simple development plan to impact
positively on a performance
Monitoring and recording performance development sessions
Review the performance development process by:
Seeking feedback from others
Reviewing the effectiveness of the development plan in supporting performance
development
Reflecting on performance progress based on all information gathered
Identifying future development needs
Evidence collected should relate to 1 activity (can be the same as performance), although learning can
take place across a number of activities.
National 4 – Physical Education
Added Value Outcomes
1
Prepare for and carry out a performance in a physical activity by:
1.1 Preparing mentally, emotionally, socially and physically for the performance
1.2 Selecting and applying appropriate knowledge and skills during the performance
1.3 Following rules or guidelines or protocols and accepting decisions
1.4 Using safe practice, showing etiquette and managing emotions appropriately
1.5 Carrying out roles and responsibilities appropriately during the performance
Assessment Standard 1.1 requires written, oral or electronic evidence of how they
prepared mentally, emotionally, socially and physically prior to the performance.
Assessment Standard 1.2 requires evidence of the performance. (also 1.3 – 1.5)
National 4 – Physical Education
• This is a course not a qualification.
• It can be applied for at any time in the year.
• Certificates should be received
approximately one month later.

Performance Outcomes
1 Demonstrate a comprehensive range of movement and performance skills in
physical activities by:
1.1 Selecting and applying straightforward movement and performance skills, with
some complex actions, displaying consistency in control and fluency
1.2 Demonstrating body and spatial awareness with clear patterns and rhythms
1.3 Working co-operatively with others
1.4 Using and applying straightforward techniques and composition or tactics safely
and effectively
1.5 Making appropriate decisions and straightforward adaptations in response to a
range of variables
1.6 Demonstrating consistency of movement and performance skills in a range of
performance contexts.
To achieve this Unit, candidates must demonstrate a range of movement and
performance skills for two activities.

Added Value Component 1
Performance Coursework - Marked out of 60
The purpose of this performance is to assess the learner’s ability to plan, prepare for,
effectively perform, and evaluate personal performance in one physical activity.
The context for the performance must be challenging, competitive and/or demanding.
The performance will carry 60 marks (60% of the total marks available for the Course
assessment). It is anticipated that the performance will have three sections, with the
following proposals for mark allocations:
1 Planning and preparing (8 marks) — planning and making appropriate preparations for
the performance.
2 Performing (42 marks) — selecting, applying and combining skills; making appropriate
decisions and adaptations and following relevant rules, regulations and etiquette.
3 Evaluating (10 marks) — evaluate the effectiveness of the overall personal
performance, including strengths and weaknesses.
National 5 – Physical Education
Added Value Component 2
Performance Coursework - Marked out of 40
The purpose of this portfolio is to provide evidence of the process involved in
performance development.
Evidence will be collated by the learner (with support from the teacher/lecturer) on an
ongoing basis during the Course. The learner can present this evidence in the form of
a logbook, diary, development record or any other appropriate format.
This portfolio will give learners an opportunity to demonstrate the following skills,
knowledge and understanding:
♦ understanding factors that impact on performance
♦ planning, developing and implementing approaches to enhance personal performance
♦ monitoring, recording and evaluating performance development
The portfolio will have 40% of the total mark.
National 5 – Physical Education
The e-portfolio is expected to take place after 2 years of a paper exercise which might look
like this.
Task 1
The task for you is to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of factors that impact on
personal performance in physical activities.
You must show that you can:
explain in detail two methods used to identify factors impacting on performance
explain in detail the impact of one positive and one negative factor on performance
explain two approaches to develop performance
Page 14
National 5 – Physical Education
Task 2
The task for you is to demonstrate that you are able to develop personal performance in
physical activities.
You must show that you can:
describe one strength and two areas for development in a performance
prepare and implement a personal development plan with identifiable targets and be
observed implementing part of the development plan by the assessor
select and apply two approaches to impact positively on a performance
complete evidence of monitoring and recording a minimum of three performance
development sessions
National 5 – Physical Education
Task 3
The task for you is to demonstrate that you can evaluate the performance
development process.
You must show that you can:
record and submit evidence of seeking two different examples of feedback from
others which evaluate your performance development plan
provide evidence of the evaluation of the effectiveness of your development plan in
supporting their performance development
provide evidence of evaluating progress based on all information gathered
identify and explain two future development needs
