DEB TROWBRIDGE
Speech
Deb Trowbridge Bio
Pittsburgh-born and raised (Terrible Towel and all), Deb knew from
early on that she was fascinated by communication, education, and child
development. From her first semester at Penn State University, she fell in
love with the field of communication disorders and graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. After
moving to Northeastern Ohio, she obtained her MA in Speech Pathology
from Kent State University and completed internships at Akron City
Hospital and the Akron Oral & Maxillofacial Clinic. Deb was then
employed by the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District, where she
worked with students in K-12th grades and helped to develop and lead a
developmental preschool program for children with disabilities, ages 3-5.
One of Deb’s most unique experiences in Ohio was riding the Akron
skies in the Goodyear blimp. In 2005, Deb moved back to PA, where
she has worked with Early Intervention programs for children from birth
-3 years age and preschool children 3-5 years of age. She is very
excited to be working with the CIU #10 Nonpublic School program
since 2011. Deb and her husband have four energetic sons, the
youngest of whom currently attends Penn State University. She loves to
visit family in Pittsburgh, Akron, Cleveland, and DC, but she is always
glad to step foot back in Centre County, where she enjoys all things
outdoors, including hiking, gardening, and exercising with her dog,
Callie.

ACT 89 NON PUBLIC SCHOOL
SERVICES
I teach remedial math and enrichment within the
non public CIU#10 program at 2 private schools
in Clearfield, PA. At one school, the largest
number of students are remedial math students
while the other school only has 2 math students
with the majority being enrichment students.
The math students use their school curriculum,
worksheets, hands-on manipulatives, and apps
to reinforce math concepts. The enrichment
program uses technology and projects to learn
new and deepen knowledge.
I meet with students about an hour a week in small groups of 4 or less.
Each week, we visit my website to learn a vocabulary word and solve a
math puzzle. The vocabulary is reviewed at the end of the year with a
geocaching activity that they need to decode and seach for and a vocab
competition at the end-of-year party. Each year, we start with an MS
Excel activity where they pretend to purchase stocks and design a excel
sheet. They sell the stocks at the end of the year and calculate their profit
or loss. We practice and participate in a regional Math 24 competition in
Meadville.
In the past, we have designed hand-held kaleidoscopes, created songs
using GarageBand, published stop-motion projects on YouTube,
researched and created PowerPoint projects, designed quilted projects,
researched geneology, and designed Ukrainian Pysanky Eggs, among
other projects.
We use apps on iPads, Google Earth, Google SketchUp, and Geometer's
Sketchpad. We have hatched chicks from eggs, raised Madagascar
Hissing Coackroaches, and made compost while raising Redworms. My
goal is to instill in the students the idea that learning is fun and a lifelong
process. I want them to exercise their mind. I have attached a link to the
class website and photos of a few projects.

(guidance/counseling)
I received my M.Ed. in Counselor
Education/Elementary School counseling from
Penn State University in 1997. I became a
National Certified Counselor in 2007 and a
Licensed Professional Counselor in 2010 by
taking post-graduate courses, sitting for the
National Counselor Exam and fulfilling 3600
hours of supervision.
Sally Best Bio:
I was employed as an elementary school counselor in the Juniata Valley
School District for 13 years before coming to the IU. In addition to this
position, I am also continuing to build my private practice and I also
work as a per diem outpatient therapist for UCBH in Bellefonte. Some
of my related activities within the community include volunteering for
the Tides bereavement program as a group facilitator, where I have
served for 5 years, and recently I have joined the executive board for
Bridge of Hope, Centre County - a organization that seeks to help single
mothers who are homeless or at risk for becoming homeless. I am also
involved with various community theatre groups and sing in a few
community choirs.
As an itinerant school counselor for IU 10, I visit non-public schools in
Clinton, Clearfield and Centre counties, providing individual counseling
services to students whose life situations may be making academic and
social success difficult. Some of the problems for which students might
be referred include (but are not limited to) grief and loss,
divorcing/divorced/blended family struggles, serious illness of a loved
one, social skills deficits, attention difficulties, friendship problems or
behavioral issues in the classroom. I have also provided classroom
guidance lessons as requested on topics including bullying, friendship,
conflict resolution and character. As needed, I have served as a
consultant to teachers and parents with questions about ways to best
handle situations that may arise with their students/children.
