OPERATIONAL PRINCIPLES

• 14 - 24 years of age • 4 Mandatory Sections: Community Service Physical recreation   Skill Adventurous Journey • 3 Award Levels: Bronze  Silver  Gold • Minimum period of participation

Available to all Voluntary Achievement focussed Balanced Non Competitive Progressive Flexible Marathon not a Sprint

REQUIREMENTS Level

Bronze Silver Gold

Minimum Duration Age*

6 months 14 years + 12 months 15 years + (6 months if qualified Bronze) 18 months 16 years + (12 months if qualified Silver)

* Any level must be completed by the participant’s 25 th birthday.

FOUR AWARD SECTIONS

Community Service Skill Adventurous Journey Physical Recreation

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Enourage a sense of responsibility to the community     Terry Fox Run Fundraising campaign First Aid course Environmental project

Provide some form of service as follows...

B: 15 hours / 6 months S: 45 hours / 12 months (qualified B: 30 / 6) G: 90 hours / 18 months (qualified S: 60 / 12)

ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY

Cultivate a spirit of adventure and discovery     Aircrew survival exercise Canoe excursion Field training exercise Expedition at Summer Training Centre(except personnel)

Undertake a practice journey and an adventurous journey for… B: 2 days / 1 night S: 3 days / 2 nights G: 4 days / 3 nights

SKILL

Encourage the development of cultural, vocational and practical skills     Music Public Speaking Ceremonial Drill Collections

Choose a skill with a view to following it in a period of… B: 6 months S: 12 months (qualified B: 6) G: 18 months (qualified S: 12)

PHYSICAL RECREATION

Encourage improved performance and physical fitness     Individual or team sport Cross-country skiing Climbing Volley-ball

Participate in physical activities over a minimum period… B: 30 hours/15 weeks S: 40 hours/20 weeks G: 50 hours/25 weeks

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT

Develop social adaptability through involvement with others in a group setting    Cultural exchanges Summer camps (except personnel) Exchange trips

Gold: Participate in a planned project in the company of peers who are not everyday companions for a minimum period of 5 consecutive days and 4 nights.

AWARD PROCESS

 Complete registration form and pay fees of $20 per participant – A one time registration fee of

$20 which includes participant’s Record Book.

 Set out challenges within the four Award sections  Achieve objectives and complete the

Participant’s Record Book

 Complete an Award application form for the level achieved

LEADER’S ROLE*

 Promote the Award  Motivate and help participants choose their individual program  Monitor progress  Perform required administration duties (registration and fees, Award level application forms, etc.) * Leader must be at least 18 years of age.

AWARD

Achievers receive a pin and certificate to mark their accomplishments. Certificates are presented by:

Bronze Silver Gold Community Representative Lieutenant-Governor Member of the Royal Family or Governor General of Canada
