Reduces test delays due to network congestion. Provides students with a more seamless testing experience. Required for all FCAT/EOC computer-based testing in Florida. • Proctor Caching Network Diagram 19 Organizing Test Sessions • Three ways of organizing test sessions 1. By Test Group – only includes students in a particular group (e.g., class, testing room) who will be testing together Advantage: PearsonAccess can be used to manage the testing groups and session rosters will include only one group of students testing together. Can also be used to distinguish between students taking regular computer-based form (Main) and the accommodated forms. Disadvantage: will require setup and management of more sessions 2. By Test Day – includes all students in a school to be tested in a subject on a particular day Advantage: greater security because a session can be started and stopped on the same day Disadvantage: requires coordination of testing groups at the school 20 Organizing Test Sessions, cont. 3. By Test Administration – includes all students scheduled to be tested in a subject during the entire test administration Advantage: limits setup and management to one session and additional make-up sessions do not need to be created Disadvantage: test sessions are open and active during the entire testing window, which may present a security concern; greater coordination of testing groups at schools; and may be cumbersome to locate and manage specific students 21 Student Authorization Ticket • Student Authorization Tickets (secure materials) Session/Test/Location Student Name Date of Birth Student Florida ID (partial) Student Signature Line URL Login ID Test Code (password) • Students need a Login ID and Test Code (password) for each test session. • Students need a pencil or pen to sign their tickets. 22 Samples Of Printed Student Authorization Tickets Detail View/Single Ticket Grid View/6 Tickets List View/3 Tickets 23 Test Code & Test Group Code Test Code Test Group Code A six-digit code created by PearsonAccess and printed on Student Authorization Tickets and Session Rosters. The Login ID and the test code are required to log in to TestNav. A unique four-digit number used to identify groups of students tested together, which is created by district assessment coordinators or by school assessment coordinators. This is entered after the Welcome screen in TestNav and before students see the first question. 24 NEW Seal Codes for FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake • The FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake is divided into two sessions and must be administered over two days. A seal code is used to separate the sessions. For the accommodated computer-based FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake delivered via TestHear, test administrators must ensure students only complete questions 1-27 on Session 1 (day 1) and complete questions 28-53 on Session 2 (day 2). There are no seals or stop signs between sessions. 25 Seal Code (FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake only) 26 Electronic Seal Code • • • (FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake only) In Session 1, students will only be able to click “Next Section” from the Go To screen. Once they proceed beyond the Go To screen, they cannot return to Session 1. TestNav will show 3 sections of the test with answered/unanswered questions. Section 1 is the Welcome screen/test group code section. Section 2 is questions 1-27 (Session 1). Section 3 is questions 28-53 (Session 2). 27 Electronic Seal Code (FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake), cont. • The Session 2 Seal Code screen includes a stop sign and a box to enter the seal code. Students cannot return to Session 1 from this screen. Test administrators should not post the seal code until instructed to do so in the script. 28 Session Roster • Session Roster can be used to record or verify most of the required administration information. 29 Fall 2011 Retake Test Administration Schedule Test Testing Window Duration FCAT Reading PBT* October 13 – 19, 2011 Untimed FCAT Reading CBT and FCAT Mathematics CBT October 13- 26, 2011 Untimed FCAT 2.0 Reading CBT** (2 sessions – one per day) October 13 – 26, 2011 ½ a school day per session *FCAT Reading paper-based test administrations must be completed within the first 5 days of the testing window. **FCAT 2.0 Reading is divided into two sessions, which must be administered over two days during the testing window. Read the Test Administration Policies and Procedures and sign the FCAT/FCAT 2.0 CBT Administration and Security Agreement. Ensure all workstations meet the minimum requirements, including screen resolutions set to 1024 x 768. Confirm TestNav 6.9 software has been installed (file share or local install) on all computers to be used for testing. Confirm TestHear software has been installed (local install only) on all computers to be used by students requiring accommodated CBT forms. NEW Ensure all student workstations have successfully loaded the Infrastructure Trial (see Infrastructure Readiness Guide at www.FLAssessments.com/AdditionalResources). 112 Technology Coordinator Before Testing Checklist Meet with the school assessment coordinator to discuss the administration of the computer-based test and walk through the test administration. Discuss and implement plans for handling possible technical interruptions during testing. Run the TestNav System Check to determine the amount of bandwidth needed for testing. Evaluate the testing locations in the school to ensure availability of sufficient electrical outlets and network jacks. Ensure you are aware of applications that must be disabled prior to testing (e.g., screen savers, automated virus scan software, remote access applications, and the Macintosh control strip). Computers used for test administration activities (i.e., PearsonAccess) have the appropriate required version of a standard Internet browser based on the operating system in use on the computer and the browser’s pop-up blocker is disabled. School has a high-speed connection to the Internet AND the connection is 113 not over-allocated. Technology Coordinator Before Testing Checklist If a firewall is used, appropriate destination/port/protocol combinations are allowed through the firewall. Any proxy servers have been checked to ensure that the appropriate URLs are not blocked. Internet content filters are configured to allow the specific IP addresses required for administering computer-based testing. Proctor Caching computer(s) have been set up properly. A printer is available for printing the Student Authorization Tickets, seal codes, and Session Rosters (color is not required). Analyze the network to determine whether network bottlenecks exist. Confirm that student computers and the Proctor Caching computer have not been updated with any additional software and will not be updated before testing begins. 114 Technology Coordinator Before Testing Checklist Confirm that test content has been cached for all scheduled test sessions. Test content is available one week prior to the test administration window. Verify that the performance of your Internet connection is consistent with expected levels of performance for computer-based testing. Ensure no high bandwidth network activity other than computer-based testing will be occurring during the testing window. Ensure that laptops are connected to AC power. If batteries must be used, ensure that they are fully charged and have the capacity to last for the entire test session. Ensure that each computer station is equipped with a keyboard and mouse (or other pointing device). Disable instant messaging and email notification. Disable screen savers, power savers, and remote desktop. 115 Technology Coordinator Before Testing Checklist Disable or delay anti-virus, auto-scan and/or auto-update, system restore utilities, Windows Security Firewall, web content filtering, or other software that may impact CPU speed or scan/block information transferred between the workstation and the servers. Alert your school to the dates and times for computer-based testing and require students and teachers not testing to refrain from using any streaming media or other high-bandwidth applications while students are testing. Ensure student workstations and the user profiles and logins being used for testing allow full permissions (read-/write-/modify-) to the TestNav/Temp and TestNav/Logs directories. Ensure that the primary and secondary save locations are set for student response files and that students have read-/write-access to these locations. Ensure that test administrators are familiar with how to access TestNav software from student workstations and how to access the student comment forms (if shortcuts are provided). On each day of testing, confirm the Proctor Caching computer and Proctor Caching software are turned on and remain running. 116 Technology Coordinator Before Testing Workstation Specifications General Specifications (Windows/PC and Apple/Macintosh) Each computer must meet or exceed the following General Specifications in addition to the applicable Operating System Specifications below: 500 MB available disk space 1024x768 screen resolution Keyboard and mouse (or other pointing device) High-speed internet connection Operating System Specifications Windows/PC Apple/Macintosh Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Pentium III 733 MHz processor 512 MB RAM Windows Vista (Service Pack 1) Pentium III 1 GHz processor 1 GB RAM Windows 7 Pentium III 1 GHz processor 1 GB RAM Mac OS X 10.4 G3, G4, G5 500 MHz processor 512 MB RAM Mac OS X 10.5 Intel, G4, G5 867 MHz processor 512 MB RAM Mac OS X 10.6 Intel processor 1 GB RAM 117 Technology Coordinator Before Testing Workstation Specifications Additional Specifications for TestHear (Accommodated Forms) • TestHear will operate on Windows PC workstations and on Macintosh workstations that have Mac OS 10.5 or later installed and are running Windows (e.g., via Boot Camp). TestHear will not work on Mac OS X 10.4 or on Macs that cannot also run Windows. • For students requiring the screen reader, the computer must be equipped with an audio card and headphones. • For an optimal student experience, any computer that takes a noticeably long period of time (e.g., more than 10 seconds) to start and run applications, even computers which meet the requirements above, should not be used for high-stakes computer-based testing, if possible. • The testing platform does not permit access to other applications during testing. This means that any applications that may automatically launch during testing will interrupt the student’s testing session, logging the student out of the test. Applications such as antivirus updates, power management software (laptops), screen savers, and email with automatic message notifications should be configured so they do not launch during test sessions. 118 Technology Coordinator Before Testing NEW Monitor Display and Shading • To ensure students will see all of the content in the test, students are asked to confirm that they can see 15% shading on the Test Group Code screen when they first log in to the test. • If students cannot see the shading, they must exit the test and their monitor settings must be adjusted. • General instructions for adjusting monitor settings are provided on pgs. 128-129 (Fall 2011 CBT Manual). The steps for changing contrast and brightness settings will vary depending on the manufacturer and model of each individual monitor. 119 Technology Coordinator Before Testing Proctor Caching • Instructions for installing Proctor Caching are provided in the Fall 2011 CBT Manual. • Computers used for Proctor Caching do not need to be server-class machines but should meet the system requirements Proctor Caching can run on either a Windows or Mac operating system, and each can support both Windows and Mac-based testing workstations. • Each testing computer must be configured to refer to a Proctor Caching computer in order to obtain test content. If more than one computer is being used for Proctor Caching, be sure to specify the IP address of the correct Proctor Caching computer during the TestNav installation process. For example: if there are 80 computers that may be used for testing and two Proctor Caching computers, 40 of the testing computers may be configured to link to Proctor Caching computer A, and the remaining 40 may link to Proctor Caching computer B. 120 Technology Coordinator Before Testing Proctor Caching • Proctor Caching Security Proctor Caching software stores a copy of the test content on the local hard drive of the machine on which it runs. Test content transmitted and stored by the Proctor Caching computer is in encrypted format. At no time does the Proctor Caching computer un-encrypt the test items. “Purge cache” function deletes all encrypted test content from the hard drive of the Proctor Caching computer. FDOE and Pearson require that test content be purged at the end of each administration window. • Proctor Caching Computer Placement Proctor caching can be implemented at either the lab- or the schoollevel. Computer should be located as close as possible on the network to the student workstations. 121 Technology Coordinator Before Testing TestNav • Instructions are provided in the Fall 2011 CBT Manual. • Once TestNav has been properly installed and tested, it should continue to be successful on student workstations through the test administration, as long as no incompatible software updates are made. • Annual updates to TestNav may require re-installation of software. (There are currently no updates to the software for 2011-2012. The version of TestNav installed for 2010-2011 can be used for 2011-2012, unless otherwise indicated by the FDOE.) File Share vs. Local Install • Two options for installing TestNav File Share Local Install 122 Technology Coordinator Before Testing TestNav Pros Cons File Share + Single point of installation and configuration changes + Easier to implement in a large-scale testing environment + Centralized single location for log files - Adds a single potential point of failure Local + Quicker launch time - Increases installation time (Note: + Limits potential points of System automation tools, such as SMS failure [Windows] and Apple Remote Desktop [Mac] can make local installs much easier) - Requires that configuration changes be made on each machine 123 Technology Coordinator Before Testing NEW TestHear • TestHear must be installed on all computers that will be used by students requiring accommodated CBT forms (e.g., large print, zoom, screen reader, color contrast, assistive devices). • Instructions for downloading and installing TestHear are provided in the Fall 2011 Accommodations Guide. • TestHear ePATs will only operate on Windows PC workstations and on Macintosh workstations that have Mac O S 10.5 or later installed and are running Windows (e.g., via Boot Camp). TestHear will not work on Mac O S 10.4 or on Macs that cannot also run Windows. • Local installation is required for TestHear. • TestHear accommodated forms are larger than regular TestNav forms. To help determine bandwidth requirements and to provide an opportunity to practice loading TestHear forms, accommodated test data will be added to the Testing Volume Calculator in the TestNav System Check (www.FLAssessments.com/SystemCheck) and to the Infrastructure Trial in the Training Center. The FDOE will notify districts when these features are available. 124 Technology Coordinator During Testing Checklist Ensure Proctor Caching software is running on all Proctor Caching computers. • Turn on Proctor Caching software Windows: go to Start>All Programs>Proctor Caching>Proctor_Caching Mac: once Proctor Caching is initiated it will not have to be restarted unless it has been manually stopped. Monitor each testing room to ensure that there are no technical issues. Be available during testing to answer questions from test administrators. 125 Technology Coordinator After Testing Tasks Purge Test Content from the Proctor Caching Computer Complete Comment Form. Please provide feedback that will be meaningful to the FDOE and the test contractor. 126 Reminders for Fall 2011 See the appropriate test administration manual for more details on all reminders.
