A glimpse into how Human Factors knowledge is applied
in design in industries

Defining suitable experience for user is now becoming a
very important part of a successful design. There is
currently much interest in notions of product like iPhone,
which is a successful product of experience design.
Experience design is the result of research and practice in
arts, design and usability. In this presentation, the audience
will get to know how Human Factors knowledge can be
applied in design in industries, get to understand what is
experience design, how to setup an experience design
process, how to identify user needs, how to visualize the
user experience into design and how to conduct usability
tests to validate design concepts. The presenter will explore
with you the state of the art in the theory, process and
practice of experience design.

About the Speaker
Dr. Yuanfu Qiu
Dr. Yuanfu Qiu is currently a UI design manager in Creative Technology. He was a senior
experience designer in Hewlett-Packard. He led the interaction design project and user
research to improve the user experience of new product design. He also worked as a
Usability lead in Autodesk, the world's leading supplier of advanced 2D and 3D design
software tools. He has rich experience in developing User-Centered Design process. He is a
usability expert in human computer interaction, user interface design, usability analysis and
new product design. He worked as an IT specialist and an Industrial Engineer before. He
has a multi-disciplinary education, having received a PhD in Human Factors and
Ergonomics from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Master in Industrial
Engineering, and Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Zhejiang University, China. He
was professionally trained in interaction design, computer science and management
science. He has published more than 50 papers in international conferences and journals,
including the Best Paper awards in APCHI, IEEE CIS International Conferences. He is a
reviewer of UPA, CHI, and HFES conferences some international journals. He is the
president of Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA) Singapore, a member of Human
Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), Ergonomics Society, CHI and IEEE Society.
