Reducing Road Casualties In Dorset Chief Inspector Rick Dowell Head of Operations Tactical Group Pat Garrett Head of SEES Education Better Driving ENFORCEMENT Casualty Reduction Public Support Local and National Policies Engineering INTRODUCTION • Dorset Police in Partnership is working to reduce casualties in line with Government’s 2010 targets based on 1994 – 1998 mean. • The 1994-1998 mean KSI casualty total was 479. Our target to meet by 2010 is to reduce this figure by 40%. This gives us a target of 287. • The 1994-1998 mean Child KSI casualty total was 48. Our target to meet this by 2010 is to reduce this figure by 50%. This gives us a target of 24. CURRENT • At the start of DSCP in 2002 there were 550 KSI casualties and 43 child KSI Casualties. • Progress – 2006 – 371 KSI Casualties & 25 Child KSI Casualties.
