Curriculum
• Math program : – College Prep Math (CPM) – Accelerated Math • Language Arts/Reading: – Junior Great Books – Prentice Hall Literature Text – Daily Language Instruction/Spelling – 40 Book Challenge • Less emphasis on AR points/goal • More emphasis on developing a love of reading and exposure to a variety of genres.

• Social Studies: – Holt Ancient Civilizations • Science: – MacMillan/McGraw-Hill
Earth Science
• Spanish – Full immersion Spanish class (30 minutes, twice a week)
Assessment
• Report cards are based on demonstrated proficiency of state standards.
• Piloting the Grading for Mastery approach, letter grades and standards proficiencies are based on: – 70% based on chapter and unit quizzes and tests, projects, presentations, etc. (subject-dependent) – 10% of Reading and Math grades comes from progress toward meeting 40 BC and AM goals.
– 20% based on daily effort on class and homework
• Proficiency scores are also based on: – District tests drawn from textbooks (every trimester) • Language Arts • Math – District-wide Writing Assessments • California Standards Testing (Smarter Balanced) – Math and English Language Arts – Does not influence grades

Grade Trip to Walker Creek
• October 13-17, 2014 • Informational meeting for students and parents:
Wed., Sept. 24, 1:30 p.m.
• $385 per student (fund-raisers?) • Must be paid in full prior to departure – Last day for all types of payment is October 3rd.
• High School Chaperones – Whitney H.S. juniors and seniors • Any medications, prescription or OTC, need to be signed off by a physician.

• Art Docent helper* • Room Mom (organizes parties and other events)* • Working with students (math, writing, science)* • Grading student work • Prep work – Copying, scanning, laminating • Field Trip chaperones* • Scholastic Book Club orders • IB Binder maintenance * Requires fingerprint clearance
