Hood (men) and Mt Hutt, NZ (women). Both teams are currently back at Mt Hutt for their September / October camps. Our original plan had to be altered due to the non-operation of Farnham and poor snow in Chile. • Men’s staff Richard Jagger, Duane Baird, Sean Cameron • Women’s staff Mike Necesanek, Cam Stephen, Mike Marsh • A number of AST members will be involved in the CAST Prospects program this year Calendar • Significant change this year with Zone racing at the K1 level. Goal is to have more manageable field sizes and a better transition from E2 to K1. • New standards for course setters at provincial E2, K1, and K2 races including mandatory attendance at Alberta Alpine course setting module. November 15 in Calgary / November 22 Edmonton • No Alberta participation at the K1 Whistler Cup this year. Alpine Canada has also decided not to participate at the K1 level. Youth and Children’s Committee Update • Ken Read is the Chair of the FIS Alpine Youth and Children’s sub-committee • As of the 2012-13 season the entry age for FIS will go up by one year (16 years old instead of 15) • The committee is considering a number of proposals to align existing age categories from the 2012-13 season • Alberta Alpine will be consulting with a number of stakeholders including the North and South Zone Chairs committees, the Ski Coaches Council, and Alpine Canada to ensure a smooth transition to the new categories Legends Club Update • Focused K1 and K2 skiers who are showing potential in the high performance stream • A chance for youngsters and their coaches to interface with high performance athletes and coaches from the AST and CAST • An opportunity to benchmark against the best of their peers from around the province in a high performance environment. • Definitely a trickle down effect when athletes and coaches return to their clubs with new ideas and intensity. • Camps will be held in December , January and April. Coach Education • Coach Licensing will be in effect for all levels. Credits can be gained through approved coach ed projects run within the club or through online study at www.snowpro.com • Modules are also offered by Alberta Alpine. An example is the ACL Injury prevention session presented by Dr. Vicki Harber September 24th. • For information on CSCF courses including Entry Level coach courses visit www.snowpro.com Alberta Ski Coaches Council • The executive for 2010-11 is: – Chair Ian Fulton – FIS Portfolio Dustin McLeay – K2 Portfolio Shayne Spence – K1 Portfolio Scott Bailey – Entry Portfolio Stephanie O’Brien – Coach Education Portfolio NZ Rep - TBA Ski Cross Integration • Ski Cross incorporated into Alpine Canada as of June 2010 • This is logical as a very high percentage of elite Ski Cross athletes developed through Alpine • Alberta Alpine is working with Canada Ski Cross in planning for the integration of Ski Cross at the provincial level. • A number of Alberta Alpine clubs will offer Ski Cross programs this winter and athletes will register through Alberta Alpine • Ski Cross Canada will host events in Alberta this season including the National Championships in Lake Louise Ski Cross Integration • If managed well the integration of Ski Cross offers potential benefits to our members. (An additional event, fun, skill development opportunities) • Challenges include coach education, safety protocols and course construction for younger athletes • Coaches need to be pipe and park certified or complete the Ski Cross safety module with CSCF • There is a need for a clear athlete transfer policy and an understanding of the development pathway for Ski Cross. • It does not appear that early transfer from Alpine to Ski Cross will produce optimum results.
