Alternative medicine: any therapy that patients use instead of
conventional medicine (old and new)
e.g. biofields, subtle energies, consciousness, intention, faith,
prayer
Complementary medicine: an alternative medicine practice
used in conjunction with a conventional one.
Integrative medicine: combines conventional medical
therapies and CAM therapies for which there is some highquality scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness,
allowing for healing-oriented medicine that takes account of
the whole person (body, mind, spirit and lifestyle)
