Possibility 1: New highly granular 4p/2p
ball for both high and low g energies
Possibility 2: Existing detectors for high-
energy g’s (Chatea de Crystal and HECTOR)

a new g-calorimeter

Possibility 3: New „g-telescope”:
highly granular inner (hemi-)sphere made from e.g. LaBr3 for
low energies (and pairs) detection
+ less granular outer (hemi-)sphere (either new or from
existing high-energy g-detectors (for high energies)

Dear members of the
National-Societies Advisory Commission of the
European Nuclear Physics meeting (NSAC-EuNP)
First of all I would like to thank you for serving on the NSAC-EuNP committee which forms a corner stone in the
organization of the European Nuclear Physics (EuNP) meeting.
At its fall 2006 meeting the Nuclear Physics Board (NPB) of the European Physical Society (EPS) felt the need for a
common meeting of the Nuclear Physics Divisions of the various national physical societies and decided to take
action by organizing the EuNP meeting. To fulfill this function it is mandatory to have good contacts with the national
Nuclear Physics Divisions, which I see as one of the main duties of this committee. The first EuNP meeting will be
organized in the spring of 2009. For more information please check this reference (or the web-site mentioned in the
signature) which contains more details.
A first task for which I would like to ask your help is the selection of the place where the EuNP will be held. For this a
good knowledge of the possibilities in the different countries is essential.
I assume the meeting will attract between 1000 and 1500 participants. The meeting should have a low threshold for
graduate students.
Based on this the selection criteria are:
a main auditorium seating between 1000 and 1500 people,
possibilities for about 10 parallel sessions
ample affordable lodging
easily and cheaply reachable from all participating countries
- good possibilities for local financial and administrative help.
I would like to receive your proposal by March 15, 2007, so that the NPB can review the different proposals at its spring
2007 meeting (March 30).
Since e-mail has sometimes a tendency to get lost in the copious amounts of spam we all receive I ask you to confirm
receipt of this message.
For the EPS-Nuclear Physics Board,
Olaf Scholten
Chair of the EuNP Organizing Committee
