January 29, 2013

This is not a Q & A session
• There are index cards on your tables for
questions, please fill them out, INCLUDING
YOUR REGION #, and they will be collated and
replied to in your JMT
• Link to DTSDE Website/Materials:
agnostic-tool-institute/DTSDEHandbook.html)
Purpose
• To provide a BRIEF outline/summary of the
DTSDE process and the role of SESIS within
that process
Types of Reviews
• District Review
– Focuses on Tenet 1
– Always led by Integrated Intervention Team IIT
(SED led team)
• School Review
– Focuses on Tenets 2 through 6
– At least one school review per district will be led
by IIT
SED led (IIT) vs. District led Reviews
SED Led Reviews:
District Led Reviews:
IIT Team – Required Members:
• SED lead
• OEE
• District liaison
• Subgroup Specialists as required by
identified subgroups (e.g., SESIS,
RBERN, etc…)
Team Members:
• District Lead
• District team members (district
discretion)
• OEE optional
• SESIS participation determined via
regional planning
Focus:
• Includes all 6 DTSDE review events
• Focuses on all of Tenets 1-6
Focus:
• Includes all 6 DTSDE review events
• Focuses on Tenets 2-6
• Must do tenet 3 and then choose 2
additional (NOT tenet 1 because it
is being addressed via IIT reviews)
– All IIT reviews include Tenet 1, which
is the district review that looks at
district leadership and capacity
SESIS Role in DTSDE Review:
• Regardless of type of review, SESIS is required to:
Before the on-site review:
– Conduct RSE-TASC walk-through
– Communicate summary of walk-through to building principal
– Remind principal to include walk-through summary as part of prereview documents packet
During on-site review:
– Act as subgroup specialist for students with disabilities and participate
in DTSDE events as determined by SED lead
– Collect evidence across all events in the DTSDE handbook that will be
submitted to the Calibration Assurance Team (CAT) for review
– Collate evidence into findings, evidence, impact statements and
capture on school summary report with tentative HEDI ratings
After the on-site review:
– Participate in team phone conferences to finalize findings, evidence,
impact statements that will form the basis of the school’s final report
DTSDE Review Events (p. 13):
•
•
•
•

Observation of teacher meetings (e.g.,
common planning time)
• Classroom visitations
• Review Debrief (with review team)
6 Tenets of the DTSDE Rubric:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
District Leadership and Capacity
School Leader Practices and Decisions
Curriculum Development and Support
Teacher practices and Decisions
Student Social and Emotional Development
Health
6. Family and Community Engagement
• Insert rubric screen shot
Rubric
• Throughout the events, each team member will be
required to code their observations/evidence back to
the corresponding statement of practice in the rubric
• Evidence across events is used to generate “findings,
evidence, impact (FEI)” statements (as captured on
School Summary Report p. 137)
• On the summary of school review document, each
reviewer is expected to provide tentative HEDI ratings
for the evidence they collected (p. 150 HEDI scoring
guide)
• The summary documents are then collated across the
team and the lead reviewer(s) then cull these down
into the final report and HEDI ratings of the school
Important Considerations:
• Each reviewer should have a working knowledge
of the rubric tenets and statements of practice to
facilitate their ability to code evidence during the
events
• Evidence should be based on what was seen or
heard – low inference observations – NO
JUDGMENT
• All data collected will be submitted and reviewed
by the calibration team
• SESIS’ focus as the subgroup specialist is on
students with disabilities
As we close…
• Place any questions in the center of your table
we will collect them later and share with your
coordinator for further clarification within
your JMT
• There will be additional information
disseminated regionally on the DTSDE process
