What is Grants.gov?
A single, unified storefront for all
customers of federal funds to
electronically find funding opportunities
and electronically apply for funds.



PIs do not have to register to
Grants.gov. The institution, NJMS, is
already registered.
For NIH grants, you do need an eRA
Commons User ID. If you do not know
your eRA Commons User Id, please
contact your grant administrator in
ORSP.

Now How do You Submit?

Now that you have saved your
application, checked for errors, and
you need to submit…..
Get it to ORSP
Getting your Application to
ORSP

1)
2)
3)

There are three ways of getting your application to
ORSP:
e-mail the PureEdge form to ORSP administrator
(file size constraints)
Walk it down to MSB C-690 on disc/CD/ or thumb
drive
Submit the file through the NJMS Intranet
All applications must be accompanied by an
approved GAFA and completed financial
disclosure form (FDF). This process does not
eliminate the internal routing process of the
university.
Using NJMS Intranet for
Submitting your PureEdge File

Go to the website
https://njmsintra.umdnj.edu/mbm/myprofile/index.cfm
User Name is the same as
UMDNJ e-mail address
Without the “@umdnj.edu”
extension.
Very helpful to
provide the due date
here also
What Happens Now?



The intranet sends an e-mail to the ORSP
administrators as well as the PI confirming
that your application is ready to be retrieved.
Once ORSP reviews and approves the
application, the grant administrator, not the
PI, submits the application to Grants.gov.
That is why it is imperative that you submit
the final version of the application to ORSP
at least 24 hours prior to the submission
deadline. Drafts need to come in at least 5
days prior to the deadline.
Why do we need at least 24
hours?

Once the ORSP grant administrator
submits to Grants.gov, it can take up to
2 days to get the e-mail confirmation
that the application has been accepted
and validated.
Why do we need at least 24
hours? (continued)
For NIH, there is another step!
 Once Grants.gov accepts and validates the
application, they forward the application to
eRA Commons for VERIFICATION.
 The PD/PI reviews the image of the grant on
eRA Commons and check for errors. The
PD/PI has 2 days to correct any errors. After
the two days have elapsed, the grant
submission is finalized and no electronic
changes can be made.
If your NIH Application needs
to be Corrected….


If you need to make a correction to your NIH
application within the two day verification
period, you have to 1) make the correction
on your PureEdge form, 2) check off
“Changed/Corrected Application” on the SF
424 R&R Face page 3) Submit to ORSP so
that your grant administrator resubmits.
NOTE: ORSP resubmits not the PI
Please Take Note:
For NIH grants, eRA Commons will:
 Generate the Table of Contents section
 Assemble the grant image
 Include headers (PI name) and footers
(page numbers) on all pages
