Goals
• To introduce and immerse ourselves in the cultural and
social experience of an African nation and the African
continent
• To instill a fundamental appreciation of the social, economic
and ethnic challenges in the history of a diverse and
developing nation.
• To understand the differing commercial challenges, and
opportunities, of succeeding in business in South Africa as
well as in Africa.

• To receive credit for the course participants must:
• Complete advanced work

• Team site preparation
• Attend all pre-travel meetings
• Attend and participate fully in all activities and site visits during
the module

• Read one of 10 selected books on South Africa, some
examples are

• South Africa: The First Man, The Last Nation.
• Tomorrow is Another Country: The Inside Story of South Africa’s
Road to Change.
• Disgrace: A Novel
• Kaffir Boy, The True Story a Black Youth's Coming of Age in
Apartheid South Africa
• Read current economic and social conditions briefs on
South Africa
• Prepare for site visits (team)
• We will meet at least twice before departing, with one
meeting on Tuesday, February 26
