Introduction
• Honeywell’s new AVS increases the value
of every sale by providing an unmatched
level of comfort and added protection for
your customers’ lives.
• The AVS two-way voice technology gives
you a valuable opportunity to earn
additional recurring monthly revenue (RMR)
by providing instant communication
between end-users and control station
operators during an emergency—giving

Introduction
• The enhanced sound quality (87 dB) is the
best in the industry, when compared to
other two-way voice systems.
• This superior sound quality virtually
eliminates dead spots.
• The AVS mounts directly inside the VISTA
cabinet—reducing the time and space
needed for installation.
• Both the AVS control and AVST voice
station connect via the four-wire ECP bus
for faster and easier wiring.

Operating Modes
The AVS can be setup in one of 2 modes.
• ECP Addressable Mode
– This mode was designed to work on the 15P rev 6.1+, and the
20P rev 7.0+.
– The AVS emulates a 4229 zone expander with up to 4 relays
setup on a certain address on the panel’s ECP to allow AVS
operation and alarm sounds to the stations.
– This mode also allows 2-way voice over the cellular
communicator but is limited to panels and revisions listed above.
• Voltage Trigger Mode (ECP Non-Addressable Mode)
– This mode is designed for all other panels and allows the AVS
to accept voltage triggers from the panel for operation and alarm
sounds to the stations.

Setup in Addressable Mode
• There are ECP terminals in bottom right of the AVS for connection to all
ECP devices.
• The AVS should be the only device connected to the panel’s ECP
terminals, no matter what mode in which the AVS is setup.
• If other devices are connected to the panel’s ECP terminals, this will
cause timing issues with the ECP and intermittent operation.

Mounting Remote Stations
à Honeywell.com
Wiring Remote Stations
• The stations are meant to be mounted next to the keypad so the keypad
can be wired directly from the station.
• This allows a single wire run (4 conductors) from the AVS to the station,
then to the keypad.

Wiring Remote Stations
• Power, ECP data and Voice are transmitted over a single fourconductor run, between the AVS base unit and the station.
– The ECP data is run bi-directionally over the yellow wire.
– The 2-way voice is run bi-directional over the green wire.
• VOX, Talk and Listen Mode
– The AVS in VOX mode will detect sound from the premises and
central station and automatically switch to the one with the higher
level, similar to a speaker phone.
– In VOX mode, it can take approximately one second for it switch
between premise and central station.
– If there is a lot of background noise at the premises, the central
station may need to use Talk and Listen modes, instead of VOX.
– The terms, Talk and Listen are considered in reference to the Central
Station.

Wiring Remote Stations
Power Considerations
• Each station pulls the following current:
– 25mA in idle state.
– 250mA in 2-way voice mode.
– 350mA in siren mode (alarm sounds from panel).
• Only one station can be powered from the control panel.
• The additional 2 stations (if used) must be powered from an
external power supply with a common ground from the supply to
the control panel.

Setting the Stations’ ID
and Volume Adjustment
à Honeywell.com
Setting the Station ID/Volume
• Up to three stations may be used on a system.
• If using only one remote station, the default station ID can be
used and no setting of the ID is required.
• If using more than one station, each station must have a unique
station ID in order for the central station operator to be able to
select a particular station during a voice session.
• Station IDs range from 1-3 (default = 1) and are separate from
and do not affect control panel ECP device addresses.
NOTE: Multiple stations with the same ID will not be individually
selectable by the central station operator. Instead, the stations
will all be active at the same time.

AVS
Panel Trigger Mode (Typical)
After the control panel has transmitted its alarm report to the
central station, the control sends CID code E606 to the central
station and immediately triggers the Base unit to hold the phone
line for 90 seconds and wait for the central station to initiate the
voice session.
The AVS is triggered via the control’s ECP connection per
emulated relay 7 or 15 programmed as zone type 60.
Once a voice session is started, the sirens are temporarily
silenced per the emulated 4229 zone 24 or 48 programmed with
zone type 81.
Once the session has ended, all alarm sounds will restart and
continue until disarm or the programmed bell timeout.

Callback Mode
When Callback mode is selected, the system will open up a 5minute callback window after being triggered by the panel.
During this 5-minute window, the system will go off-hook when it
detects a single telephone ring and will wait for the central station
operator to enter a valid access code, via a Touch Tone phone,
before starting the voice session.
The default callback code is 123456.
Unless the session is terminated by the central station, the
control holds the phone off-hook and connected to the central
station for five minutes.
Each subsequent command by the central station operator
extends the off-hook time five minutes.

GSMV Mode
If 2-way voice is programmed to occur over the GSMV
communication link, the AVS module must be set for panel trigger
mode.
After an alarm report is sent AlarmNet connects the GSMV to the
Central Station for a two-way voice session.
When the call to the module connects to the control, the system
automatically begins a voice session in Listen mode.
The central station operator can then control the voice session
using Touch Tone commands.
The GSMV mode is programmed with quick commands and sets
the relay programming with zone types 61 and 62.
These zone types are available only on the new revs of the
15P/20P.
NOTE: GSMV Mode not available when reporting via Internet.

Operation in Voltage Trigger Mode
Panel Trigger Mode (Typical)
• When the panel sends the E606 AAV code, the panel’s J7 output
will pull to ground for 2 seconds and trigger the AVS to hold the
phone line for 90 seconds, allowing the AAV session to start.
• When the session is started, the AVS will trip the dummy zone,
and cause a relay to open zone 5.
• When the panel sees zone 5 open (a short will not work), it will
silence all alarm sounds, until the session has ended.
• Once the AAV session ends, the alarms sounds will continue
until the programmed bell timeout or disarming.

Callback Mode
• When Callback mode is selected, the system will open up a 5-minute
callback window, after being triggered by the panel.
• During this 5-minute window, the system will go off-hook when it
detects a single telephone ring and prompts the central station
operator to enter a valid access code, via a touch tone telephone
keypad, to start the AAV session.
• The default callback code is 123456.
• The AAV session will timeout after five minutes.
• Each subsequent command by the central station operator extends
the off-hook timeout by five minutes.

Setup in Voltage Trigger Mode
• There are 2 banks of dip switches.
– The first bank selects, Callback or Panel Trigger mode (panel trigger
recommended), and whether the CO and Bell inputs will be negative
trigger.
• The second bank sets the ECP Address
– Address 31 (non addressable mode) is used so the AVS does not
conflict with other devices addressed on the ECP.
39
AVS

Setup in Voltage Trigger Mode
Programming
• Enable the Cancel Report Code in the panel’s programming.
• 1*46 = 3
– This enables the J7, pin 3 trigger to go low for 2 seconds upon
transmission of the Contact ID code of E606 which triggers the AVS to
hold the line for the AAV session.
Note: Contact ID is the only format that will send the E606 signal, “Listen-to-follow”.
• 1*60 = 1
– With this field enabled, zone 5 is no longer available for a protection
zone.
– Instead, zone 5 controls the panel’s bell output and keypad’s sounders.
– When Zone 5 opens via relay during the AAV session, the keypads and
bells are silenced.
– Zone 5 must be programmed as a zone type 10 (panel will auto assign
this zone type when 1*60 is enabled).
– The EOLR must be removed, regardless of *41.
40
AVS
Honeywell Proprietary
à Honeywell.com
Setup in Voltage Trigger Mode
• Relay Programming
– First, program a dummy zone with zone type 23.
– Next, program this zone into an unused zone list.
– Now, program relay 1 to stay closed per the fault of the same
zone list, and Stop on the same zone list.
– The AVS pull-to-ground trigger output will short and trip the
dummy zone, thus tripping this relay to open zone 5 which will
cause the panel to stop all alarm sounds during the AAV
session.
NOTE: Zone 5 has to open. A short on the zone will not work.
Fire and Carbon Monoxide alarms will interrupt the AAV
session immediately and the panel will send the signals to the
central station.
41
AVS
Honeywell Proprietary
à Honeywell.com
Setup in Voltage Trigger Mode
• OPTIONAL Carbon Monoxide Alarm
– Program a separate relay to stay closed per Zone Type 14
Carbon Monoxide, if available (use a zone list if not available),
and turn off per Zone Type 36 (Disarm or Bell Timeout).
– This will trigger the CO input and annunciate Temporal 4
pattern to the stations.
– The keypads will also annunciate CO pattern if the keypads
supports CO alarms.
– If the keypads do not support CO alarms, they will annunciate
Temporal 3 pattern.

Setup in Voltage Trigger Mode
• If Burglary and Fire alarm
sounds are required from
the stations, the bell output
of the panel must be wired
to the AVS bell input.
