Person Specification
•
Specialty training year 1 and core training year 1 (ST1/CT1) -Demonstrate achievement of
the Foundation Programme competences by the end of July 2010 or if training was with a
different programme candidates will need to provide written evidence. To enter at ST1 and CT1
candidates cannot have already held a post for more than 18 months (by the time the candidate
takes up the new post) in the specialty to which the candidate is applying.
•
Specialty training year 2 and core training year 2 (ST2/CT2) - Achievement of the
competences or equivalent from the first year of specialty training (ST1) or will be on track to do
so by end July 2009. There is no limit on experience for eligibility for selection to ST2/CT2.
•
Specialty training year 3 (ST3) - Achievement of the competences or equivalent from the first
two years of specialty training (ST1 and 2). There is no limit on experience for eligibility for
selection to ST3.
•
Specialty training year 4 (ST4) - Achievement of the competences or equivalent from the first
three years of specialty training (ST1, 2 and 3), or have the entry requirements for former higher
specialty training programmes (i.e. Specialist Registrar (SpR) programmes). There is no limit on
experience for eligibility for selection to ST4.

In the first instance candidates will be referred to the relevant person specifications
Awaiting guidance relating to immigration status and eligibility
Candidates will be required to demonstrate foundation competencies, information
will be on the website
Candidates will need to hold full General Medical Council registration status and a
current licence to practice (General Dental Council registration status is also
required for OMFS) by the time of appointment of post
Right to work in the UK, doctors whose immigration status entitles them to work as a
doctor in training in the UK are eligible to apply for specialty training. Other non-UK
or non-EEA nationals with limited leave to remain in the UK, whose employment will
require a Tier 2 visa, are subject to the resident labour market test.
English language skills,It has been agreed for 2010 the required IELTS score is 7 in
all domains (speaking, listening, reading and writing), to be achieved in a single
sitting and within 24 months of the time of application.

New Developments for 2010 (1)
• Application Form – Part One (Personal Details) the
revalidation process will be added to the form, there will
also be amendments to the reference/vetting sections.
• Application Form – Part Two (Specialty Specific)
proposed will be split in to two parts. Part Two (a) will
be the candidates employment history which can be
saved and not re entered each time an application is
submitted. Part Two (b) will be specialty specific.
• ST3 Recruitment – Some specialties may be led
nationally, this will be through Lead Deans and SAC’s

• Recruitment will not begin until the following tasks and
arrangements are completed:
• Recruitment Documentation sent to Recruitment Team
• Indicative Numbers agreed with Programme Manager –
which have been ratified against Trust contract
schedules

Local Changes to Recruitment 2010 (2)
• Candidates must have at least 5 working days notice of
interview date and time
• Interview questions must be agreed with the
Recruitment Team at least 5 working days before
interview date
• Application Forms to be viewed electronically rather
than on paper
• References will only be requested for successful
candidates and sent to a clinical referee – no HR
