 VHS outbreak in the Great Lakes. APHIS makes
an emergency rule.
 Baitfish prices rise dramatically due to APHIS rule
 Increased need for improving WV aquatic animal
health policy.

 State Department of Agriculture – Develop
capacity for testing for specific pathogens, and
certification.
 No Progress on Helmick’s fish stocking initiative.
Helmick’s Fish Stocking Initiative
 Promote economic development by enhancing
recreation and tourism
 Stock public water with fish that are grown on
private fish farms.
 Local organization responsible for purchasing
the fish, securing necessary permits, and
supplying labor to stock the fish.
 Big streams, big trout.
 Technical Committee created, but neither
Tourism nor Econ Development have agreed to
administer the program. No funds have been
allocated at this time.

UNITED STATES FOR CONTROL OF MORTALITY IN
FRESHWATER-REARED SALMONIDS DUE TO
FURUNCULOSIS ASSOCIATED WITH AEROMONAS
SALMONICIDA
(OCTOBER 26, 2007)
The first antimicrobial approved for controlling mortality due to furunculosis
outbreaks in 20 years .
The third label claim approved for Aquaflor®, the first new antimicrobial
approved
for aquatic species in more than two decades.
