Progress Targets
What are Progress Targets Again?
A relatively new accountability system to analyze student
achievement.
★ State’s benchmark is 90%.
★ Goal is to close a school’s achievement gap in half
within 6 years.
★ Progress Targets are set in annual equal increments
How Progress Targets are
Determined
★ The proficiency rates were baselined using the 2010-2011 NJASK and
HSPA data. (Although whether or not we met the benchmarks were
determined by 2014 data).
★ The formula: if our “all” students group is currently demonstrating a
proficiency rate of 40 % then there is a 60% gap between 100%
proficiency and the current rate.

Where We Are Now, Where We’re Going
Language Arts
★ Continue to be PARCC-ready. After the PARCC test, curriculum, assessments, and prep
materials will be examined and realigned to our PARCC experience. Continue to support our
students with online PARCC practice tests and explore test preparation materials.
★ Continue the last phase of a comprehensive roll-out of programs and assessments aligned to the
Common Core State Standards including: Reading and Writing Fundamentals, Diagnostic
Reading Assessments, Fundations, and Multi-sensory Word Study programs.
★ Infuse our Reading Specialists throughout the instructional process from team planning, to
instructional delivery and for literacy intervention - this cadre of specialists is integral to our
success - look to LH as a model.
Language Arts
★ Transition from the implementation stage to refinement and enhancement. Support ELA
collaboration horizontally and vertically. Use a web-based platform and increase professional
development opportunities.
★ Support the upper levels with the expert lens of a Reading Specialist and facilitate a Literacy
Team model for the specialists to assess and service identified students and provide
professional development. Continue our Title I program of services
★ Last phase of modernizing our media centers with RH slated for the next 21st century upgrades we are currently in the design phase.
★ We have established a culture where reading is important. Throughout the district students are
involved in book clubs, literacy nights, community book swaps, author visits and Skype sessions.
Mathematics
★ After the PARCC test, the curriculum will be reordered and aligned to the PARCC test as well as the
Common Core State Standards. Online PARCC tests and materials specifically designed for test
preparation will be available to all students.
★ Currently we are in the second year implementation of the Math In Focus curriculum at the 3rd and 4th
grade levels.
The math coaches have worked extensively with these teachers this year to improve understanding of the
new curriculum, differentiated instruction, and centers based learning.
★ Currently we are in the first year implementation of the Math In Focus curriculum in the 5th grade and the
6th grade next year.
The math coaches have been instrumental in the roll out of the Math In Focus curriculum in the 5th
grade.
★ Assessment results will be utilized to formulate student growth objectives and monitor individual student
progress.
Mathematics Coaches
Continued use of Math Coaches to improve mathematics instruction including:
★ Emphasize looping of skills, math talks, writing within the curriculum, and use of technology
★ Provide in-district professional development opportunities to aid teachers in designing suitable
assessments, utilizing data, and enhancing instructional delivery
★ Offer effective educational activities during K-5 math nights to allow opportunities for
parents/guardians to learn how to help students at home
★ Continue to design centers and engaging activities, co-teach, model lessons, maintain and
update e-copies of assessments, lessons, and activities for teachers
Language Arts + Math = Success
Network and collaborate at the next level=Teaching Channel
★ Teaching Channel - a web-based and on demand platform for professional
development, partnership, and collaboration - facilitates 24/7 digital
access to “model lessons” and collaboration
★ Examine/Align/Enhance our instructional rigor horizontally and vertically
and enhance teacher competencies
★ Establish math and literacy teams across the grade level configuration collaboration is at the tip of our fingertips
Thank-you for your support
★ Reading specialists, Literacy coaches, and Math
Coaches
★ Creation of PARCC labs at the HS
★ 1:1 chromebook initiative
★ Supporting professional development and higher
education opportunities
