ESL Endorsement Delivery
•
Students focus on one course at a time in a 5-week blended format.
Each course consists of 10 blended sessions.
•
Classes meet one night per week from 4:30-8:30 p.m. during the school year
and during the summer. In addition to this weekly classroom session, students
complete an asynchronous 4-hour session online through D2L (Desire2Learn).
•
Class capacity averages 22 students.
•
ESL Endorsement calendar is 18 credit hours delivered in nine instructional
months. Schedules (determined by the hosting school’s calendar) include:
– Spring and Winter Break
– An August break (when applicable) averaging 2 weeks for classroom
preparation and in-service attendance.
– Holidays (when applicable)
About our Blended Format
•
•
•
•
Benedictine University uses blended learning by combining online classroom
sessions with a face-to-face classroom environment.
Blending the weekly in-class session with the weekly D2L session emphasizes
interaction and participation both in and out of the classroom.
The online session will be scheduled asynchronously. So that you may complete
your 4-hour weekly session at your convenience, there are no scheduled log-in
times. A high-speed internet connection will be required to access D2L.
Emphasis is on interaction and participation both in and out of the classroom.
Assignments will be submitted and discussions will be continued outside of class
using Desire To Learn (D2L) to maximize student and instructor contact.
Instructors will provide weekly expectations per course.
Class Attendance
• Class emphasis is on interaction and participation.
• Class attendance is mandatory and is critical to our students’
success. One absence in a five-week course is 20 percent of the
course content.
• Contact your instructor in advance if you must miss a class.
• Two absences or more results in a grade of “F.”
