Games time Service Outline

NHS Responsibilities Games time

• Ensure business as usual service delivery • Meet the bid commitments • Provide appropriate contingency for health resilience

During Games Time the NHS will need to be ready to meet the needs of

• Local population • Games Family, vast majority met by LOCOG • Visitors and spectators, business as usual rules on eligibility to NHS healthcare.

Key Planning Assumptions

As part of the bidding process for the 2012 Games, the Government made a series of commitments, including several related to health Operational readiness in Greater London is co-ordinated by the Greater London Authority (GLA), a programme of work generally referred to as City Operations (City Ops).

Designated Providers

NHS organisations designated to provide specific services to LOCOG. In London these are London Ambulance Service, Barts and the London, Homerton, UCLH

Extra demand on health services generated by any temporary increase in the population of London during the Games or by increased activity such as live screen and cultural events that may take place at this time

International Paralympic Committee - The international governing body of sports for athletes with a disability The term ‘Live Site’ is used to refer to a location where facilities (including big screen televisions) will be established to enable people to engage in the Games experience (generally sporting and cultural activities). London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games - responsible for preparing and staging the Games London Olympic Regional Planning Assumptions National Olympic/ Paralympic Committee Olympic Delivery Authority - Public body responsible for developing and building the new venues and infrastructure for the Games and their use after 2012 and the planning and delivery on both transport infrastructure and services to support the 2012 Games projects

Olympic & Paralympic Family

Accredited group of people comprising the IOC and IPC organisations (and their constituents), Chairmen and CEOs (or equivalent) of sponsors and broadcasters, international and domestic dignitaries, Presidents & Secretaries General of the NOCs/NPCs, IFs/IPSFs, accredited members of future organising committees, candidate cities, World Anti-Doping Agency, Court of Arbitration for Sport, and designated guests of these groups

Olympic Route Network

A system of existing roads linking competition venues, accommodation and other key locations around London and the UK. A smaller version will operate during the Paralympic Games.
