Why ABC’s Books Work So Well in
Louisiana’s Classrooms
• Three full-length tests that mirror Louisiana’s
assessments for elementary, middle, and high
school
• Diagnostic, formative practice, and summative practice
tests
• Questions aligned to cover 100% of the tested GLEs
• Questions mirror the exams in content, weighting, and
formatting
Why ABC’s Books Work So Well in
Louisiana’s Classrooms
• Item analysis in the Diagnostic Test Evaluation
Chart and in the Chart of Standards for all
three simulated tests.
• Precise diagnostic approach useful for
differentiated, small group, and whole class
instruction as needed.
Why ABC’s Books Work So Well in
Louisiana’s Classrooms
• Our chapters support specific Louisiana
Standards.
– Each chapter lists the standards covered.
Why ABC’s Books Work So Well in
Louisiana’s Classrooms
• Chapters
– present content in concise, easy-to-understand
concepts.
– provide students with visual support for explanations
through diagrams, illustrations, and graphic aids.
– include bolded key terms in context for easy, efficient
reading comprehension.
– contain frequent benchmark exercises, quizzes, and
activities to measure student progress.
Book Layout Increases Student
Performance
• Students can write in the books.
– Gives ownership of learning to student
• Easy-to-understand content facilitates parentchild involvement.
• The format, questions, and content coverage
across all three tests and within the chapters
give students great test familiarity before they
take the actual exam.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 1: Administer the Diagnostic Test.
• Step 2: Score the Diagnostic Test.
– Short answer questions must be hand graded.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 3: Do an item analysis on the test results
using the evaluation chart.
– Base your program of study on the number of
questions missed, which align with the chapters
within the book.
– If a student misses more than one question per
chapter, the student should review this chapter.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 4: Develop a schedule of lesson plans
based on the diagnostic test results.
– Include chapter assignments, quizzes, activities,
and reviews for students to complete for your
grading.
– Base your schedule of lessons on the number of
days before the actual test.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 5: Pace the lessons.
– Chunk the lessons into segments that will hold the
students’ attention for the maximum time
possible during the class sessions.
– Remember, the key to better test scores is
consistent and continuous use of our books over
an extended period of time.
– Warning: Extended use of ABC’s resources will result in
improved GLE knowledge and greater testing
confidence.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 6: Give a mid-point progress test.
– Administer Post Test 1 (AKA Practice Test 1) at the
mid-point of your program of study. After scoring
the test, use the Chart of Standards to run an item
analysis .
– Identify the standards and chapters that students
still need to review. Review commonly missed
questions in class.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 7: Cover remaining chapters, exercises,
quizzes, and reviews as needed.
– Continue teaching the concepts and skills in the
chapters to prepare for the Summative
Assessment (Practice Test 2).
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 8: Administer the Summative
Assessment.
– Administer Post Test 2 (AKA Practice Test 2) a
week prior to when students take the actual test.
– Score the test, do an item analysis, and review any
standards and concepts students still need to
learn.
– Review the test questions students missed often
to reinforce success on the actual test.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in
Your Classroom
• Step 9: Students take the real iLEAP, LEAP, or
EOC test.
– Suggest general test-taking tips prior to the actual
exam. Some of these are located at the front of
each book.
– Give students words of encouragement both
before and after the exam.
– Students are now ready for SUCCESS!

Educator Testimonials
Seron Tyro, Lafargue Elementary, writes: “I
discovered a copy of Passing the iLEAP Math Test
in Grade 7 in one of the math classrooms... It was
awesome! You have outlined the GLEs, which is
what I am basing my entire summer school
program on. In my 11 years of teaching, I have
used numerous workbooks, but I have never come
across one that excited me this much!”
Educator Testimonials
Marguerite Guilbeaux, St. Martinville Junior High
School, said: “I have recently ordered and received
copies of Passing the LEAP Grade 8 in Social
Studies. These books are wonderful, and as soon
as our next CNI funds come in, we will order more
for all of the students.”
