The handle is made from a 6 inch piece of 1-3/8” wooden dowel rounded at one end. A ¼ inch wide, 1 inch deep slot is made at the other end for
the blade. A hole is drilled in the butt end of the handle, and a 5/16 by 1 inch steel bolt threaded in to add a little more weight for better balance.
The blade is made from a 1-1/2 inch wide, ¼ inch thick slat of Poplar wood purchased in lengths of 3 feet. The blade is tapered beginning 3 inches
from bottom end, down to 1 inch wide at tip. A wood plane is used to taper both edges back ¼ inch. The tip is formed by making two 45 degree
cuts. Holes are drilled near the tip and a #4 and a #7 round lead fishing weight is glued in to give the sword blade a feeling of more mass.
