forms one whole unit. Each 6/6 can be renamed as 1 for one unit . Six units
and 5/6 of another unit will give result in the mixed form 3 5/6 . A fraction
such as 3 5/6 that has a whole number part and a fraction part is a mixed
number.

Any number written in fraction (a/b) form can be written as a whole
number or a mixed number. You can calculate the mixed form for
23/ by dividing the numerator 23 by the denominator 6 as is

shown in the example on the right. The quotient 3 is the whole
number. The remainder 5 is the numerator and the denominator is
the same denominator 6.
