Test Coordinator Training Spring 2015 Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) 1 Contact Information Joslyn Overby PARCC State Lead, PARCC Policies and Procedures [email protected] Gabe Martinez PearsonAccess Next [email protected] 2 What is PARCC? • Common Core (CCSS)-aligned assessment in ELA (Reading and Writing) and Math • Provide data to support instruction, interventions, and PD • Provide data for accountability • Designed to assess student performance at significant breadth and depth • Innovative assessment (computer-based) • Indicate Readiness for College and Career • Provide measure of student achievement across 11 states. Two assessment windows yield one overall assessment score • Performance Based Assessment (PBA) –75% into the school year • End of Year (EOY) Assessment –90% into the school year PBA + EOY = Summative Score Blueprints and Evidence Tables • http://www.parcconline.org/assessment-blueprints-testspecs • Blueprints describe the content and structure of an assessment by defining the total number of tasks and/or items for any given assessment component, the standards measured, the item types, and the point values for each. • Evidence tables indicate the essential components of a student response with respect to each assessed standard. Model Content Frameworks – Support implementation of the CCSS – Inform development of the PARCC assessments – Grade-level specific – Valuable for teachers as instructional tools Model Content Frameworks The Model Content Framework for each grade level in ELA is divided into four sections: • Narrative Summary of the ELA Standards • The Model Content Framework Chart • Key Terms and Concepts for the Model Content Framework Chart • Writing and Speaking and Listening Standards Progressions Charts Model Content Frameworks The Model Content Framework for each grade level in Math is divided into seven sections: • • • • Examples of Key Advances from the Previous Grade Fluency Expectations or Examples of Culminating Standards Examples of Major Within-Grade Dependencies Examples of Opportunities for Connections among Standards, Clusters, or Domains • Examples of Opportunities for In-Depth Focus • Examples of Opportunities for Connecting Mathematical Content and Mathematical Practices • Content Emphasis by Cluster ELA Resources • Model Content Frameworks: http://parcconline.org/mcf/ela/parcc-modelcontent-frameworks-browser • Rubrics: http://parcc-test.pearson.com/sampleitems • Passage Selection Guidelines: http://parcconline.org/sites/parcc/files/Updated %20Passage%20Selection%20Guidelines.pdf • Prose Constructed Response Information: http://parcconline.org/sites/parcc/files/PARCCSa mpleofWritingForms.pdf Math Resources • Model Content Frameworks: http://parcconline.org/mcf/mathematics/overvie w-parcc-model-content-frameworksmathematics • Equation Editor Guide, Tutorial, and Practice: http://parcc-test.pearson.com/tutorial/ • CCSS-aligned Activities: http://mc2.nmsu.edu • Calculator Policy: http://www.parcconline.org/sites/parcc/files/PA RCC%20Calculator%20Policy%20%20Updated%2010-22-14.pdf Student/Family Resources • Tutorials: http://parcc.pearson.com/tutorial • Sample Items: http://parcc.pearson.com/sample-items) and practice tests • Practice Tests: http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests • Construct written responses on computer! Scores • Student will receive scaled scores on a 0-80 scale. • Scores will be available in ELA/L and Math. Subscores will also be provided. • Students performance will be given in Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs). • There are 5 PLDs • The scales will be set after the first PARCC assessment administration (fall 2015) 13 Performance Level Descriptors - PLDs Level 5 Distinguished Command Level 4 Strong Command Level 3 Moderate Command Level 2 Partial Command Level 1 Minimal Command • To earn a College- and Career-Ready Determination (CCR-D), PLD Level = 4 or 5 • Beginning in 2015-2016, students will need to “pass PARCC” as their graduation primary demonstration of competency for ELA and Math. Involvement of Higher Education Higher Education has been involved in Advisory Committee on College Readiness (ACCR) since 2011. Scores of 4 and 5 should truly indicate readiness for credit-bearing (non-remedial) college courses. Future possibilities: incorporate PARCC scores into course placement policies? Assessment Results on Transcripts Primary and Secondary Education Standards for Excellence Procedural Requirements NMAC 6.29.1.9.E.5 Transcripts MUST include results of accountability assessment (currently SBA, PARCC beginning in 2016). Technology Preparation • Complete the PARCC training modules at http://parcc.pearson.com/manuals-training – – – – – – – PearsonAccessnext Proctor Caching and TestNav Configuration Personal Needs Profile (PNP) Test Administration Student Registration Import School Technology Readiness Student Readiness Resources Technology Preparation • Create a TestNav configuration for proctor cache in each school or at the central district level. • Update Java and monitor updates. • By January 9 (PBA) and January 23 (EOY): – Update district and school location and contact information – Change and confirm the following test assignments: • Large Print • Braille • Paper-based Testing • Paper-based Testing in Spanish (Math only) • Unassign ELA tests for students taking SBA SLA • Unassign both ELA and Math tests for students taking alternate assessments (NCSC) Technology Preparation • By February 20: – Assign/validate all CBT test registrations in PAN. – Upload PNP or assign accommodations/accessibility features to all student profiles.* * This requires communication between the Test Coordinator, SPED staff, EL/bilingual staff, and teachers to identify the accommodations and accessibility features for SWD, ELs, and students who would benefit from additional accessibility features. • See “PARCC LOCAL EDUCATOR PLANNING TOOL • FOR ACCOMMODATIONS AND ACCESSIBLIITY FEATURES” PED Step-by-Step Guides – PAN User Roles – Steps to Update Contact Information in PAN – Step-by-Step Guide for January 9 Student Registration – Step-by-Step Guide for January 23 Student Registration – 2015 NM Day at the PARCC Step-by-Step Guide – Step-by-Step Guide for Creating Test Sessions Program Preparation • Identify appropriate testing assignments. • Prepare testing schedule and staff assignments. • Train Test Administrators and have them sign confidentiality agreements. • Communicate testing schedule/assignments with staff, students and families. • Start TestNav on every computer before testing begins. • Troubleshoot with technology staff.
