Introduction
ᐱᒋᐊᕈᑎᖓ
• The purpose of the Kiggavik FEIS
technical review was to ensure
that the potential impacts and
benefits were comprehensively
assessed through scientific,
socio-economic and impact
assessment best practices are
fundamentally reflected in the
FEIS, and that the IQ is
incorporated through out.

Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ)
ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᒪᔭᑐᖃᖏᑦ
• Limited integration of IQ in
relation to water, freshwater
fisheries, aquatic species,
climate change and health risk.
• Additional clarity is needed on
how AREVA intends to include IQ
in the analysis of potential
project effects, mitigations and
monitoring programs.

Resin-in-Pulp Milling Process
Resin-in-Pulp ᓄᖑᔪᐃᑦᑐᖅ ᖃᓄᖅ ᐱᓕᕆᐊᖑᓇᔭᕐᓂᖓ
• The area of concern is:
• The sizing and number of the
safety screens to control the
escape of resin fragments
• The resin that passes through the
screens is deposited in the Tailings
Containment Facility (TCF).
• AREVA be able to show they
have minimized the resin
fragments that go into the TCF

Access Road from Baker Lake to Kiggavik Project Site
ᐊᑉᖁᑎᒃᓴᖅ ᖃᒪᓂ’ᑐᐊᕐᒥ ᑭᒡᒐᕕᖕᒧᑦ
• Access road to the site is
proposed to be either a seasonal
winter road or an all season road
over the 114 km distance from
Baker Lake.
• AREVA needs to define which of
the road options will be chosen
in order to add clarity and
certainty to the environmental
assessment process.

Air quality and Noise
ᓯᓚᐅᑉ ᖃᓄᐃᓐᓂᖓ ᓂᐱᖃᕐᓂᕐᓗ
• The air quality sampling program is generally well
designed
• KIA recommendations to be added to the current
air quality monitoring program:
• The generator exhausts and the underground mine
ventilation system.
• Sampling from the incinerator for hydrogen chloride,
metals, NOx and particulates.
• Add background monitoring sampling stations to the
north-east of the Kiggavik site near the ore stockpile
and to the north-west of the Sisson mine site.
• Develop appropriate action criteria for deposition of
uranium, metals and radionuclides in dust fall
• Develop appropriate acceptable site specific target
criteria for concentrations of uranium, metals and
radionuclides in snow and caribou fecal pellets.
• Proper safety signage be posted by AREVA to identify
the active mining areas.

• The noise baseline assessment is
drawn on literature review
• KIA Recommendation
• confirmation of the existing baseline

through a noise baseline study.
• Helicopter noise and aircraft noise
impact have not been addressed

Water quality
ᐃᒪᐅᑉ ᖃᓄᐃᓐᓂᖓ
• AREVA has developed a dataset
from all of the lakes and rivers
sampled in the project area,
which the KIA refers to as a
“regional baseline”.

better to use the measured data
from the receiver lake, in this
case Judge Sissons Lake,

Zooplankton Monitoring Program
ᑕᓰᑦ ᓇᑎᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᐆᒪᔪᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᖅᑕᐅᓂᖏᑦ
• Issue: Areva do not propose
zooplankton as part of the
monitoring program
• However, AREVA has made specific
predictions of effect of the effluent
discharge on zooplankton and
these predictions cannot be
verified in the absence of sampling
of zooplankton.
• KIA has suggested that a program
of zooplankton be part of the
ongoing project monitoring.

• KIA has recommended that:
• AREVA provide an assessment of
