ISMA to specify a subset of MPEG-4 for practical delivery
over IP networks
ISMA is the Internet Streaming Media Alliance founded by Apple,
Cisco, Kasenna, Philips, and Sun Microsystems to accelerate the
market adoption of open standards for streaming rich media
over Internet Protocols. Over seventy companies attended the
first ISMA meeting at Philips last month.

EPG Concepts
• MPEG-4 offers the opportunity to combine multiple
streams of video and graphics together in a single
transport stream.
• Philips Research and MP4Net have developed a
hypothetical EPG application to show the power of
MPEG-4.
• In addition to 2-D graphics and text, program previews
are sent as low-bitrate MPEG-4 video and audio
streams
• These previews are dynamically selected for display
based on user’s selections
• Demonstration is a prototype/mock-up only and is not
intended as a product
