How to Add Sound &
Animations to a PowerPoint

Adding Animations #1
• Want your PowerPoint to run all by
itself?
• Go to Slide Show  Slide Transition
• Choose Automatically After ___ Sec
• Choose Apply to All
Adding Animations #2
• Want each segment of a slide to appear
at different times?
• Click on text
• Go to Formatting Palette  Animation
 Customize
• Select text to animate, then choose Add
Effect
• Choose Start, Property, and Speed
Adding Animations #3
• Want crazy sounds and cool entrance
effects?
• Go to Slide Show  Slide Transition
• Choose Effect & Speed
• Choose Sound
• Click Apply for just one slide OR Apply
to All for all of your slides.
Adding Sound/Music
• Want some cool music to play with a
slide?
• Go to Insert  Movies & Sounds 
Sound from File
• Choose Sound  Insert
• When dialog box opens:
– Click YES to play sound automatically
– Click NO to play sound when clicked
Adding Narration #1
• Want to have an actual voice talking?
Record a narration!
• Slide Show  Record Narration
• The recording will start at the beginning
of the slide show. If you don’t want
narration for that slide, just click to the
next!
• Save slide timings = slides progress at
the speed you recorded the narration
• Don’t save timings = slides progress at
whatever pace you choose

Want to add narration to just one slide?
Insert  Movies & Sounds  Record Sound
Just record the sound, listen to it, and save it!
Be sure to name the sound (ex: Slide 12)
A sound button will appear on the slide.
Click the button, then go to the Formatting
Palette
• Animation  Add Effect  Media  Play  OK
• Then select Start: After Previous
• This makes the sound play automatically!

Adding Slides
• There are many
slide formats to
choose from,
including text,
tables, charts,
pictures, and
media clips in a
variety of layouts.
• Don’t see what
you want? You
can always
custom-create a
slide.
Adding Objects
• Just like in Word, you can add
symbols, shapes, lines, and text
shapes by using the “Add Objects”
section of the formatting palette.

Changing the Background #1
• You can change the background of your
slides using the Formatting Palette.
• There are preset slide backgrounds to
choose from.
• Just type in your information, and
choose a slide preset. The program
takes care of the rest!
• NOTE: This applies the background to
EVERY slide!

• Want your slides to be a single, solid
color?
• Go to Format  Slide Background
• Click on the drop down menu and
choose any of the colors there, OR
choose more colors and personalize
it!
• NOTE: This option allows you to
customize each slide OR apply to all.

• Want cool stripes as your
background? How about a texture or
pattern?
• Go to Format  Slide Background
• Click on the drop down menu and
choose Fill Effects.

• Or you can choose a picture from
your hard drive to serve as a slide
background!
• Go to Format  Slide Background
• Click on the drop down menu and
choose Fill Effects  Picture

•Want the picture but want it to be more
transparent?
•Go to Insert  Picture
•Choose the picture you want
•Resize it to fit the slide
•Go to Format  Picture  Colors &
Lines
•Increase the Transparency to fit your
needs
•Insert text boxes to type your info

black & white or as a watermark?
•Go to Insert  Picture
•Choose the picture you want
•Resize it to fit the slide
•Go to Format  Picture  Picture 

•Choose Grayscale, Black & White, or
Watermark
