The MIUR has the following tasks:
guidance, planning, monitoring
It is responsible for:
general organisation of school education;
provision of an essential level of vocational education
and training;
legal status of teaching staff;
determination of financial resources to the schools;
evaluation of the school system.

‘Plan of Educational Offer’ (POF)
‘PLAN OF EDUCATIONAL OFFER’ (POF)
“… fundamental document on the cultural and planning
identity of the schools…”
The POF, developed by the Teachers’ Assembly, provides
the educational objectives of the school and its
compulsory curriculum made up of a part established at
national level and a part established by the school.

replaced the old programs since 2004/2005

PRIMARY SCHOOL
Total amount of teaching hours in a school year:
891 compulsory hours + 99 optional hours
Single institutes are granted autonomy to organise their
timetables
LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL
Total amount of teaching hours in a school year:
891 compulsory hours + 198 optional hours
Each subject has a minimum and a maximum amount of
teaching time
