State Tuition Assistance Program - overview • • • • • • • • State TA is in the form of a reimbursement $4,500/year, $250/credit hour cap May be used immediately upon enlistment Certificates, Associate’s Degrees, Bachelor’s degrees, Master’s or First Professional Degree Soldiers and Airmen may use State TA at accredited institutions with a campus or headquarters in Michigan, with some exceptions for Air personnel State TA will pay most fees that FTA will not pay Lifetime cap: 144 undergraduate credits/42 graduate credits Eligibility: – HS diploma or equivalent – 6-year contract • • • • • • All ranks are eligible Most flags will suspend eligibility Must maintain 2.0 GPA (undergraduate)/3.0 GPA (graduate) No service obligation incurred TAG has flexibility for adjustments on case-by-case basis Program will be reviewed quarterly so feedback is welcomed Gaps filled by State Tuition Assistance Program – side by side Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) State Tuition Assistance (STAP) • • Up to $250/credit hour Up to $250/credit hour Up to $4,500 Applied after FTA Up to 16 credit hours • • Does not pay any fees Up-front payment to school • • Recoups money for grades less than: “C” for undergraduate courses “B” for graduate courses • Reimburses for grades: “D” or higher for undergraduate courses “C” or higher for graduate courses • Eligibility: Pays most fees Reimbursement to student Eligibility: New soldiers: 1 year after AIT Masters’ students: 10 years time in service • Upon enlistment • Lifetime cap: 130 undergraduate hours 39 graduate hours • Service Obligation Officers incur 4-year service obligation Lifetime cap: 144 undergraduate hours 42 graduate hours • Service Obligation: None How do I sign up or learn more?
