Introduction
Word processing means using IT to produce text.
The main advantages of word pressing are:
it is easy to correct mistakes;
clear professional-looking results;
spellings can be checked automatically;
automatic word wrap.
Common Features
The following are common features of word
processing:
underlining text;
italics;
making text bold;
centring a line;
double line spacing.
Other terms and features

A font is a set of printed characters of a particular
size, style and design. Word processors usually offer
a choice of font and size.

A spell checker is a program which checks the
spelling of a word you have used against those in a
dictionary.

The TAB key causes the cursor to jump several
positions. The standard TAB position can be reset.

Margins can be changed so text is further away from
or nearer the edge. There are left,right, top and
bottom margins.
The indent is the distance text is moved in from the
margins.
To justify (alignment) means to keep the letters in a
straight line at the edge of the page.
A block of text can be selected then deleted, copied
or moved.

A word or words can be:
 Searched (find) for or
 Searched for and replaced throughout the text.


A mail merge produces a set of personalised letters
by merging personal details with a standard letter.
A personalised letter is a standard letter made to look
like a personal letter by adding a name address and
other personal details to it.
Desktop Publishing - DTP

Desk top publishing (DTP) produces page layouts
of high enough quality for printing or publication.
DTP facilities include:
producing text and graphics;
importing text and graphics;
dividing the page in to columns;
moving pictures and text and adjusting their size;

guides to position text and graphics accurately.



