BUCKSWOOD ST. GEORGE’S
COLLEGE
PART OF THE BUCKSWOOD EDUCATION GROUP
ABOUT ST. GEORGE’S
The College was opened in 2000 as part of the Buckswood Education Group.
It is a small college located only 15 minutes away from the main Buckswood School.
As such it maintains close links with the school and its facilities.
It caters for international students aged 16 and above who wish to progress to undergraduate study in the
UK.
As a smaller college it can tailor the academic and social programmes to suit the students’ specific needs.
The establishment is a combined residence and college.
ABOUT ST. GEORGE’S
The students live at the college residence in one of two houses (separated male and female living areas)
and CCTV provides 24 hour security.
Rooms are either single, double or multi-bedded depending on student requests. All rooms are furnished.
The college provides wifi throughout all buildings for the students to use.
There is an IT suite, a common room with TV, a Playstation, pool table and table tennis as well as board
games.
The main sports centre, town centre and main railway station are only a 5 minute walk from the college.
ABOUT ST. GEORGE’S
At St George’s we believe there is a leader in everyone. We have a track record of excellence in
empowering young men and women from all over the world to find and develop their potential through our
academic programmes and courses.
A Buckswood St George’s College course consists of four elements listed below:
1. The academic chosen course of study (UFC/A levels)
2. Your choice of English Language course (IELTS/LAMDA/General English)
3. The College Leadership programme
4. A healthy course of sports and recreation
Academic success can take us so far, but the life skills that our Leadership Programme offers
give our students the chance to take that one step further and be ‘that one head higher than others’.
Students will join a maximum of 50 other peers to form an international cohesive group. In addition to the
main academically centered courses leadership is an extremely important aspect of being a student at St.
George’s.
Each module of our programme gives in-depth information about the particular discipline, broken down into
key elements.
All courses will also include visits to centres of excellence where leadership is shown in every day practice,
achieving results. Here in the south of England we are conveniently located to the City of London (only
1h30mins by train), the European Parliament, the English Parliament and local companies where
successful leaders can provide inspiration and direction to our students.
Within our College students will live comfortably with their peers in a ‘family’ unit. In addition the students
have the benefit of being able to use the resources at our main campus, Buckswood School, where we
have a dedicated and well used Debating Chamber as well as the latest technology to access any extra
information, and the chance to demonstrate their new found skills with peers from their own course and our
multi- national, multi cultural school base.

Leadership Courses
All St. George’s students are automatically enrolled on our leadership course – this
gives them an ASDAN qualification which count towards additional UCAS points and
can be included in any university application.
Leadership consists of four key elements, and these are developed through student
involvement in the day to day management of the college.
SKILL
EXAMPLE
DEMONSTRATION
Responsibility
Leaders need to be ready to accept not only personal
responsibility but be prepared to take charge of
others.
Students are expected to organise events, take on
duties of Head Boy / Girl which include room
inspection, monitoring attendance, being on duty
over weekends etc.
To lead is a privilege and one that all too often can be
Lead by Example abused. Students are encouraged to set an example
both academically and in society.
Students will take on duties that include
mentoring, monitoring evening prep, Captaining a
sport or society etc.
Development
All students and leaders need to progress and
develop. This is an ongoing and never ending process.
Judgment
Leaders must think logically as well as abstractly and
usually without personal gain as the first thought.
Students will get regular tutorials with the Director
of Studies and from these meetings additional work
may be assigned. This work may include;
volunteering to do charity work, taking part in
sports etc.
Students will be encouraged to take on roles as
Teacher-Student Liaison, have a voice in dealing
with bad behaviour etc.
