Changes in
unemployment
rate driven by
employment,
not as much by
labor force
changes…
Unlike recent changes
in the states
unemployment rate,
EDR 7E rate changes
are almost entirely
dependent on
fluctuations of
employment.
As the rate drops and
labor force stays
constant, employment
increases.
As rate drops and

drops.
State of MN Employment changes
•
•
The relationship
between
Employment and
Unemployment is
much less
correlated at the
state level.
With
Employment
holding steady
the rate of
unemployment is
driven less by
employment or
unemployment
but rather the
changes in the
labor force.
Region 7E
EDR 7E
currently has
about 6
unemployed
persons per
job opening.
Employment levels have rebounded, but they are still -697 jobs short of the
prerecession peak in 2007. While it represents only a 1.4% decrease the
employment recovery has not been robust enough to erase the recession.
