Mobility of through traffic will be balanced with accessibility to neighborhoods and local businesses as well as the Institutions on the “Hill.” The corridor will develop into an attractive public space through streetscape and site design features. It will become more livable and desirable and will serve as a welcoming gateway to Burlington. 5 Draft Goals 1) Design Colchester Avenue consistent with the “Complete Streets” concept. 2) Provide a range of transportation options that are safe, efficient and convenient to serve the diverse needs of residents, business, institutions and travelers through the corridor. 3) Enhance safety for vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle and bus travel. 4) Develop strategies that support community character and enhance the built environment. 5) Design and operate transportation projects and services within the corridor to enhance the environment. 6) Develop transportation projects and services cooperatively and implement projects in time to meet immediate and long term needs. 6 Long Term Street Design Options EASTERN SEGMENT WESTERN SEGMENT 7 Western Segment 8 Western Segment Existing 9 Western Segment with 3 Vehicle Travel Lanes 10 Western Segment with 4 Vehicle Travel Lanes 11 Western Segment Focus Area: Pearl and Prospect 12 View from South Prospect Street 13 Western Segment Focus Area: Pearl and Prospect Limits of 2 Lane Roundabout 14 Western Segment Focus Area: Trinity Pedestrian Crossing 15 Mid Block Pedestrian Crossing 16 17 Cross-walk Control Options In-Pavement LED Lights HAWK Beacon 18 Eastern Segment 19 Eastern Segment Existing 20 Eastern Segment Concept 21 Eastern Segment: Riverside-Barrett Focus Area 22 Eastern Segment: Riverside-Barrett Focus Area 23 Looking up Colchester Avenue from Winooski 24 Looking down Colchester Ave. towards Riverside 25 Breakout Sessions Comments on Draft Vision and Goals Not asking you to select a concept What do you like and dislike about a concept?
