TRANSPORTATION & TRAFFIC FLOW
1. Establish the Mid-County Expressway: East-West
118th Ave. from U.S.19 to I-275. Joint project with
Florida Department of Transportation.
2. Improve intersections to enhance safety and
traffic flow along major corridors.
3. Rehabilitate/replace aging bridges along Pinellas
County’s roadway system.

4. Beautify Gulf Boulevard from Clearwater Beach to
Pass-a-Grille, including undergrounding of all
utilities. Joint project between the county and
beach communities.
5. Resurface county-maintained roads.
6. Repair Dunedin Causeway bridge linking the
mainland to Honeymoon Island.

DRAINAGE & STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
1. Improve stormwater drainage systems in
neighborhoods and business districts to reduce
flooding.
2. Dredge channels to improve water flow and reduce
flooding.
3. Reinforce creeks and ditches to prevent overflow or
erosion.
4. Improve the water quality of Cross Bayou watershed
which drains into Old Tampa Bay and Boca Ciega
Bay.

PUBLIC SAFETY & HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS
1. Create a new centralized emergency communications
center.
2. Develop additional hurricane evacuation shelter spaces.
3. Convert emergency radio system to a national standard
so more than 9,000 regional public safety users can
communicate with each other during an emergency.
4. Build a hurricane-resistant facility to house Public Works’
emergency responders who support storm recovery
operations.

COURT AND JAIL FACILITIES
1. Expand jail capacity to relieve current
overcrowding and accommodate projected growth.
2. Renovate existing court facilities throughout
Pinellas County to accommodate growth and
changes in the court system.

PARKS, RECREATION, CULTURE
1. Repair and/or replace aging facilities to maintain
the quality of park facilities and infrastructure.
2. Pinellas Trail repair and expansion.
3. Purchase land for parks throughout the county.
4. Preserve/enhance boating access countywide.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION &
PROTECTION
1. Improve and restore Weedon Island Preserve pier/canoe launch,
boardwalks and trails.
2. Help restore Lake Seminole by removing sediment that is causing
water quality, habitat and recreational problems.
3. Acquire land for public beach access and parking.
4. Buy land to expand Brooker Creek Preserve.
5. Improve water quality and circulation in Upper Tampa Bay.
6. Construct regional storm water treatment facilities to improve the
quality of bay and estuary waters.

HOUSING, JOBS AND HUMAN SERVICES
1. Purchase land to create affordable housing to
support the Pinellas County workforce.
GOVERNMENT FACILITIES
1. Renovate and improve aging government
facilities.
2. Consolidate existing facilities to centralize county
records management.
3. Build new, hurricane hardened Public Works
facility.

Penny For Pinellas:
• Is not a new tax – it’s a renewal of an existing
one percent sales tax in effect since 1990.
• Can only be used for capital improvement
projects.
• Adds value to our county by funding roads,
bridges, parks, drainage and other capital
improvement projects.
• Gets divided between the county and cities.

Penny For Pinellas:
• Allows us to fund new capital projects without
relying on property taxes.
• Is paid by all who spend money in the county,
including tourists and other visitors who
contribute about a third.
• Is not collected on groceries and medications.
