WHAT IS SEL?
SEL includes the processes through which
children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
SO WHAT IS SEL?
SEL is based on the understanding that the
best learning emerges in the context of supportive relationships that make learning challenging, engaging and meaningful.

WHAT IS ALTRUISM?
Altruism is when we act to promote someone else’s welfare, even at a risk or cost to ourselves. Though some believe that humans are fundamentally self interested, recent research suggests otherwise: Studies have found that
concern for their welfare people’s first impulse is to cooperate rather than compete
that toddlers spontaneously help people in need out of a genuine
; and that even
non-human primates display altruism.
TEACH & MODEL THE BEHAVIORS THAT WE WANT TO SEE If we want to see it, we have to teach it, model it, give opportunities to experience it.
