Goal: Every u/g student nurse to have a
substantive placement in General Practice
• 8 Hub Practices set up providing regional coverage
• Each Hub recruits a network of spoke practices (similar to VTS model)
• Hub patch to be 20+ practices
• Admin funding from Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber and tariff
payments to practices taking student nurses
• All placements minimum of 6 weeks

from qualification. Expecting significant increase.
• HSJ Award – National Winner Workforce Category

….to summarise
•
The problem is now
•
If General Practice doesn’t engage with this there will be no cavalry to
fix our workforce crisis
•
Practice Nurses and HCA’s are brilliant and crucial to the future of
Primary Care……….but we need loads more!!
www.hee.nhs.uk
….the ask
•
Be relentless in getting the workforce message out there to all GP’s
Practice Managers, Practice Nurse teams and CCG’s
•
If you don’t have an ATP type model in your area consider how to
develop one. If you do then get involved in “growing your own”
•
Be active in unleashing and shaping the massive educational potential
the GPN community holds
