• BLS injury rates released in December 2004
– Utilize NAICS codes for 1st time
• 334412 for “Bare printed circuit board manufacturing”
• 334418 for “Printed circuit assembly (electronic assembly) mfg
– TRCIR up from 3.1 to 4.1
– LWDACR up from 0.8 to 1.4
– RWDCR same at 0.9
– LWDCR up from 1.7 to 2.3
• No EMS rate (fewer than 15 cases) but 2.6

• BLS TRCIR injury rates for 2003 – by size
– 11-49 = 6.8
– 50-249 = 3.6
– 250-999 = 3.9
– > 999 = 2.2
– Overall = 4.1
• Many industries and industry overall shows
highest rate for 50-249 size establishements.

continues at similar pace
• 2/19/4-2/19/5 period shows 37 inspections
with 88 violations at 25 locations
• 3 = No Inspection due to Out of Business
• Many companies not recognized >> IPC

testing protocol amended
• CNP REDON added to quantitative fit
testing protocol in App’x A of 134 standard
• Protocol requires three exercises followed
by two redonnings (was eight and one)
• Published 8/4/4 (69 FR 46986) eff. 9/3/4

• Assigned protection factors (APFs) for
respiratory protection standard (134)
• Current APFs used 1980s NIOSH values
• Action seeks to adopt industry consensus
standard values from ANSI Z88.2-1992
• Post Hearing comment period ended 5/04
• Post Hearing briefs ended Jan’05
