Projector Connections 101
Connecting Laptop - Need VGA cable (15 pin) + optional
(audio cable)
Connecting Desktop -will require either a VGA Splitter or …
If you have a dual output video card, a DVI-VGA adapter to
connect projector + your VGA/Audio cable.
Use care when plugging in VGA Cord (15 pins , can get bent)
For easiest plug and play connections:
Turn on Projector first, then computer.
Otherwise may need to press function (Fn) key and the F4 or F5
key depending on computer model. Symbol on key looks like
next slide.
Watching Movies on the Big Screen
Connecting a VCR/DVD to the projector
Can use standard RCA cables (White/Red/Yellow) or
Svideo + RCA Audio(white/red).
May need to change input source (press Search Source
button) if you have both computer and dvd player
connected.
Connect cables to the “output” connections on the
DVD/VCR.
Closed Captioning Available in Epson 83+
Do I really need this remote?
Uses of the remote control
Source Search – Change between DVD and
computer.
Freeze button - freezes the image on the screen,
press again to un-freeze.
AV Mute - Blanks the screen , mutes the audio,
press again to un-mute.
Volume control for speakers in projector.
Menu information/settings I have found useful
-Sleep mode settings
-Bulb Hours
-High or Low brightness mode (3000 vs 4000 hrs)
Help Button – On screen menu to help solve image
related problems
Living long and useful lives.
Turn off projector when not in use.
Use the “low brightness” mode if
applicable for classroom lighting.
Clean the projector filter regularly
(very easy to do on the Epson 83+. )
Keep the bulb lens clean (compressed air
for
dust, soft cloth with lens cleaner for dirt or
smears.)
Caution !! -Don’t use glass cleaner on the
lens.
You know it’s time to replace
lamp when:
The projected image starts to
deteriorate and becomes dark.
Lamp light is flashing orange.
The message “replace lamp” appears
on screen when lamp first turns on.
Troubleshooting
Computer doesn’t display on projector.
Resolution: always check cable connections first (including
power). Try toggling Fn+F4 key combo.
My video file plays on laptop but not on projector.
Resolution: Toggle Fn+F4 till screen on laptop is dark but
projector is displaying.

Slate
The Smart Airliner Wireless Slate
Uses Smart Notebook software
Requires (included) bluetooth adapter
Acts as an extension of your mouse, allows you
to manipulate the computer from anywhere in
your classroom.
Open files, navigate through PowerPoints,
highlighting and adding notes as you go.
Full charge will last approximately 25 hours.
How it works demonstration
Hover with pen ¼” above surface.
Click down to write, up to erase.
Select notebook tools just as you would on smart board.
Screen Capture tool, Record tool.
Battery Care (Lithium-ion) for
Wireless Slates, Laptops, cell
phones, etc.
(Caution) Never let the battery drain completely, or it will not
recharge.
- Always keep a full charge on device, even when you won't
be using it for a while.
-Preparing for summer- , give wireless slate a full charge ,
then remove battery from airliner Wireless slate. (Otherwise
the unit may not work when you return in August.)

In our tests, works for practically all district
software we have uses with it.
Not powerful enough for really intensive
computing obviously (Computer Aided
Drafting, Video Editing, etc)











Cost is around $400-$500 vs. $900$1000 for a laptop

512mb - 1GB ram
80 Gb Hard Drive
Microphone and Web Cam built in
VGA Port, 2 or 3 USB ports

EEEPC, HP Mini 2133, Lenovo s10e, Intel
Classmate.
We will be making a decision on a particular
model to support in the district soon. But first
we will be running a few pilot projects in the
district.
