AGRICULTURE CENSUS
• The purpose of the agricultural census is to collect
data on the structure of agriculture, to process and
to disseminate.
The data collected in the agricultural census are as
follows;
- The size of Agricultural Holdings,
- Land use by Agricultural product in details
- irrigation, Number of animals, labor and
other agricultural data.

• There are two main objectives of the
agricultural census
• To provide a major agricultural data will be
used to compare the results of the survey to be
carried out studies looking at the year,
• To create and update the framework for other
agricultural studies and surveys to be made
between the agricultural census

• TurkStat implemented seven Agricultural Censuses
(AC) from 1927 to 2001.
• The most recent agriculture census taken in 2001
included three different studies;
• Agricultural Holdings List: A complete enumeration
of the agricultural holdings located in the villages
and settlements with less than 25,000 inhabitants
was conducted by means of face-to-face interviews
with the local administrative authority (village
headman called the “muhtar”) of the settlements.

• Village Information Survey: This survey was
conducted in all villages and province/district
centres with less than 25,000 inhabitants.
• Agricultural Holdings (Household) Survey: This
survey was conducted in all villages and district
centres with less than 5000 inhabitants.
• The dissemination of results are listed as bulletins,
booklets and compact discs (CDs).

• According to the this survey, there are 3 076 649
agricultural holdings in total. 54 523 of total
agricultural holdings are without land operated.
• 31.46% of the holdings with land operated has
been accumulated among 20-49 decare land
group, 67.43% of total agri. holdings has been
engaged in both crop production and animal
husbandry, 30.21% of them has been engaged in
only crop production and 2.36% of them has been
engaged in only animal husbandry.

• In provinces and district centres with 5001 and
more inhabitants, criteria were set for land size
and number of livestock, and
all agricultural holdings over the set thresholds as
well as all public agricultural holdings were also
covered in the survey.
Until the last agriculture census taken in 2001,
agriculture censuses were taken at an approximate
interval of ten years, in line with the frequency of
agriculture censuses in the EU.

• There is a protocol dated 28.06.2013 and signed
between TurkStat and MoFAL on the Conduct of
the 2014 Agriculture Census Using the Agricultural
Information System and the Sustainability of the
Registration System
• Studies on 2014 Agricultural Census
continues.

Economic Accounts for Agriculture (EAA)
• Methodological studies for EAA were launched in
2006.
• EAA: Economic accounting system of agriculture is
agricultural’s total contribution to the economy,
efficiency, and information on input use to reveal.

• In line with EU requirements, Agricultural
Economic Accounts (EAA) has not been formed
yet.
• However, the added value of the agricultural
sector is estimated within the scope of the
National Accounts studies.

• FARM STRUCTURE SURVEY (FSS) :
• In Turkey, the Farm Structure Survey (FSS) was
conducted for the first time in 2006.
FSS will be implement every three year after
completing Farmer Registry System by end of
2014.
Farm Structure Survey will be conducted in
compliance with the European Union regulations
in 2016 using result of Agricultural census as a
sampling frame.

Holding Economic Structure
Research covered all settlements whose
population is less than 5,000.
This survey also will be implement yearly after
completing Farmer Registry System by end of
2014.

Agricultural Holdings Wage Structure Survey
• Agricultural holdings (household) wage structure
statistics are compiled from agricultural holdings
that are employing at least five seasonal or one
permanent agricultural workers during the
busiest period for agricultural purposes in the
production year that data belongs. 2013
