Chapter 1: Digital Communication Tools – Lesson 4 © 2010, 2006 South-Western, Cengage Learning Microsoft Word & Ribbon Basics • Microsoft Word: is a word processing application – Used to create and edit documents – Key feature: Ribbon – Displays: Word’s commands along top of screen Lesson 4 Slide 2 Microsoft Word Lesson 4 Slide 3 Word’s Ribbon • Each tab (across top) has different groups of commands (on bottom) Bold Italic Numbering Cut Copy Lesson 4 Underline Styles Paste Font Font Size Alignment Change Styles (Word 2010) Save Undo Bullets Font Color ReDo Slide 4 Word’s Ribbon • Formatting: the application of design elements to a document – Used to enhance your document to make it more appealing, eye catching, and easier to read Lesson 4 Slide 5 Quick Formatting • Click Change Styles more arrow – And choose Style Set – Or choose Colors Lesson 4 Slide 6 Opening Data Files • All Data files are at Keehn’s Place – Go to class webpage – Scroll to correct Chapter/Lesson – Click on Data File Link – SAVE to your name on Leaddog into your Computer Folder. Use the default name given to file!!! – Close IE and open Data File from the Start Menu. Lesson 4 Slide 7 General Info: • Acceptable Use Policies: AUP – the rules you follow when using a computer. – LDSD has an AUP that all students should follow. • Automatic Numbered Lists: when you begin numbering a list, Word will continue the numbering for you. (Home Ribbon, Paragraph Group) • Header: At top of page. Double Click to add Your name, Grade, Title, Date – Needed for all assignments.
