Arriving Customers

Video 2 – Rate Tables

• Lunchtime Hotdog Stand – Open 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. daily – Historical records show that approximately 210 customers/day visit the stand – The time to fill a customer’s order is approximately 1.5 minutes, but is highly variable

Video 4 – Assignments

• Assignment 1: – Extend the Hotdog Stand model so that the stand is open from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. each day and includes a “dinner rush” in addition to the lunch rush.

– You will need to first extend the arrival process by adding the additional hours and corresponding arrival rates. Use your knowledge of fast-food restaurants and judgment to do this.

– Implement the corresponding arrival process and update the resource schedule to support the new arrival process – Develop an experiment with responses for server utilization, average and maximum times that customers spend in the system, and average and maximum numbers of customers in the system.

Video 4 – Assignments

• Assignment 2: – Update the manufacturing system model developed in Video 01 to support orders (for parts) arriving according to a given schedule. – The data is given in the Assignment 2 Data Excel Workbook.

– Assume that order arrivals can deviate from their scheduled time by plus or minus 10 minutes (uniformly distributed).

– Create an experiment with responses for the average time parts (all types) spend in the system and the number of parts completed.
