The noise of the assembly crowd filled the auditorium. Sweat fell from Tyrone’s forehead as he anticipated his arrival to the podium. Mr. Ward asked a student to describe “Open Mike Fridays” and that was Tyrone’s cue. When Tyrone took the podium he discussed how poetry allowed him and the others to really look past their prejudices and get to know each other.
