Selca Hydropower Project in Albania
The SHPP Selca cascade comprising 2 SHPPs is located in the South-Eastern part
of Albania, near the border with FYR Macedonia and Lake Ohrid in the district of
Korça. The cascade is built on the Verbe Stream, which discharges to Devolli River
close to the village of Llozhan.
The project encompasses two SHPP, one with a capacity of 2.1 MW and one with
2.9 MW, both designed in a typical way with Tyrolean intake, desanding facility,
headrace pipes, penstocks and powerhouses.
The total electricity generation of both plants will be 23,134 MWh. As a result,
the project contributes to CO2 emission reductions of 16,194 t CO2 /year.
The first SHPP Selca 1 is already operational. The second plant SHPP Selca 2 shall
be put in operation by mid of 2013.
