Children’s Services across the spectrum of Need
Delivery Pyramid
Specialist CAMHS
• NFHT commissioned to provide Specialist and Highly Specialist
CAMH services across Northamptonshire.
• Specialist Primary Mental Health
• Specialist CAMHS Community Teams
Specialist Primary Mental Health Team
• Consultation, advice, support and training to Universal and Targeted
services
• Direct involvement where difficulties may not meet the diagnostic
thresholds for a formal clinical diagnosis.
• Countywide Liaison Line on telephone number (01536 313887).
Open weekdays from 9am to 12 noon.
• Consultation and advice regarding potential requests for
involvement of Specialist CAMHS Community Teams is available to
all professionals through the Liaison Line.
Specialist CAMHS Community Teams
• Two MDTs providing services into the four local areas of the
county:
 Northampton
 Daventry and South Northants
 Wellingborough and East Northants
 Corby and Kettering
• Complex concerns that are assessed to be severe, enduring and
complex
• CAF should precede any request for specialist involvement
Criteria for Involvement
1. Indicators or presence of severe, complex and enduring mental
health difficulties
2. Severity and complexity is reflected in:
– The nature of symptoms
– presence of risk factors
– Moderate impairment in functioning in most areas, or
severe impairment in functioning in one area
– Co-morbidity
– Associated complexity (parental, family, medical,
educational and social factors)

2. Neurodevelopmental Disorders

3. Early Onset Psychosis (jointly with NSTEP)
•
High risk mental states suggestive of early psychosis/ severe mental illness
•
Early onset schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and affective psychosis
•
Other psychoses
4. Other Disorders
•
Conduct Disorders (where there are additional mental health concerns)
•
Substance Misuse (where there is a co-morbid mental health difficulty)
Service for children looked after & adopted
in Northamptonshire
• Access Specialist CAMHS LAAC Team only after universal and
targeted services have been involved.
• Consultation, advice, training, assessment and evidence based
interventions for LAAC with significant mental health concerns.
• The care pathway applies to children or young people age 0-18
who are:
– In Residential Care
– In Foster Care
– Adopted or on the path to Adoption
– On Care Orders
Concluding Comments

health difficulties.

difficulties.

appropriateness of Specialist CAMHS involvement.
