An Overview of Microsoft Word 2010 Presented by: The Computer Commons Click to advance to the next slide Purpose All of the Computer Commons classrooms have been upgraded to MS Office 2010 to support instruction in information technology courses offered by the BUS/IT Division. MS Office 2010 is not a significant upgrade from MS Office 2007 but, there are some useful changes that we point out in this presentation. Special Notes to Instructors The “Office” button has been replaced. The “File” menu is now part of the ribbon. The default font face and size for Word 2010 is Calibri 11. The default paragraph settings for Word 2010 are set to 10pt spacing after each paragraph and the line spacing is set to 1.15. The Computer Commons has a handout that explains how to change these settings. Microsoft Word 2010 Overview: Same interface as Office 2007 with the exception of the “File” Ribbon The “File” ribbon is now referred to as “Backstage view” The Ribbon The Ribbon has organized all of the features in Office 2010 into tabbed categories. File Home Insert Page Layout References Mailings Review View The “File” Ribbon – also referred to as “Backstage” view “File” Ribbon Commands Save Save As Open Close Info Recent New Print Save & Send Help Options Exit The Quick Access Toolbar Quick Access Toolbar Commands/Icons Save Undo Redo Print Preview The Dialog Box Launcher Dialog box launcher Each group has a “dialog box launcher.” When the “dialog box launcher” is clicked, a dialog box opens to allow the user to choose more options for the task. The “Paragraph” dialog box The Home tab The “Home” tab is divided into specific groups of functions related to editing text. Clipboard Font Paragraph Styles Editing The Insert Tab The “Insert” tab is divided into specific groups of functions that are inserted into a document. Pages Tables Illustrations Links Header & Footer Text Symbols The Page Layout Tab The “Page Layout” tab is divided into specific groups of functions that are related to the layout of the document. Themes Page Setup Page Background Paragraph Arrange The References Tab The “References” tab is divided into specific groups of functions that are related to reference tasks. Table of Contents Footnotes Citations & Bibliography Captions Index Table of Authorities The Mailings Tab The “Mailings” tab is divided into specific groups of functions that are related to creating labels and envelopes. Create Start Mail Merge Write & Insert Fields Preview Results Finish The Review Tab The “Review” tab is divided into specific groups of functions that are related to proofing and tracking changes in a document. Proofing • Spelling & Grammar • Thesaurus Language Comments Tracking Changes Compare Protect The View Tab The “View” tab is divided into specific groups of functions that are related to viewing a document.
