REVERSE the Solid Waste: An undervalued source of energy Presented by CIREMSA S.A. De C.V. : Ing. Jose Ramon Alonso Pujol and Richard Lepine GREEN POWER ENVIRONMENTAL CORPORATION Solid Waste: An undervalued source of energy Executive Summary •Tultitlan Industrial Park companies (and Industrial Parks in general ) face operating challenges from current unsteady supply of electricity : - reliability is an issue due to frequent outages; - price of power is high; - situation not likely to improve in the future; • Tecnosilicatos de México and GPEC Global are joining forces to develop integrated waste valorization/energy production facilities: - recycling of glass, ferrous/non-ferrous metals, cardboard; - mineralization of wet organic fraction of MSW, yielding building material and/or soil fertilizer, as by-products; - gasification of residual waste and subsequent generation of clean, stable and source of renewable electricity; • CIREMSA is offering a “ Perfectly Green Solution” , which integrates a 45 MW (gross) Waste-To-Energy electricity production facility; Municipal & Commercial Waste CIREMSA “ Zero Waste / Energy Production Solution ” WWTP Sludge Tipping Fee Note: Revenue Centres in Coloured Areas • Metal • Paper/Cardboard • Aluminum • Glass Tipping Fee Municipal Water Boiler Feed Water Retreat Water Tires 100% 15% 85% 50% Separate Organic Fraction Inorganic Waste Sort & Recycle Gasification of Residual Waste Storage Buffer Shred Generate Steam Condense Steam (geothermal) 50% Wet Organic Waste Ash Mineralization Process • Dehydrate • Grind • Mix Additives • Building Materials • Soil Substitute or fertilizer 3% Cyclone Remove PM in Flue Gas WOW - Clean Emissions Option Steam Turbine Generate Electricity Sludge Gas Delivery Bio Digestion Cleanup Gas Bio-Digestion/Gas Production Option Clean Flue Gas Compress Gas (waste heat) Natural Gas Vehicles Power to Offtakers PRESORTING PARTLY MANUAL AND PARTLY MECHANICAL SHREDDING AND MILLING, MAKES THE PROCESS EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVE 1 2 3 5 4 6 7 9 8 MINERALIZATION IS THE KEY TO THE WHOLE PROCESS Each silo contains different additives 1 2 3 4 CM 500 X - FIBER X - MENT X - BALL X – BASE X – FUEL X - SOIL GPEC : Technology – Complete system Final TM NOTE: All ash is returned to TM Process = Zero Solid Waste Rejects GPEC : Technology – Gasification KMW Systems Inc. GPEC : Technology –Emissions control WOW Clean® WOW Clean Advantages •Integrated Multi-Pollutant Reduction System: 95% NOx & SOx (tested, 100% removal); 85% Mercury; 90% Vaporized heavy metals; 99.5% Particulate removal; 25% CO2 (tested: 85% removal); •Virtually, Zero Emission Power Plants •Provides Emission Credits GPEC : Technology – Steam Turbine GE, Dresser Rand or Shin Nippon ADVANTAGES OF “PERFECTLY GREEN SOLUTION” Intelligent operation Energetic self-supply of fuel and energy plant adapted to power generation or cogeneration exercise. All processes fully automated and maximum operational safety Historical performance Machinery suppliers have proven high standards for decades: Organics/Sludge mineralization system working for over 5 years in Europe. More than 3,500 gasification units sold by KMW since 1949. Proven results Guaranteed to deliver chemically stable products, environmentally sustainable electricity production, without producing any kind of environmental liability Technological advantage Tecnosilicatos de Mexico is the only company in Mexico with the technology to treat and valorize sludge and mineralize organic residues from Municipal Solid Waste streams. GPEC is most innovative power producer transforming MSW into clean energy CIREMSA Mexico CIREMSA proposes to construct in Ciudad de Mexico, next to TM Facilities, complete turnkey WTE facilities, under Self-Generation, Build, Own, Operate (BOO) model: Project Basis Waste Volume to TM 10,000 tonnes/day Waste Volume to GPEC WTE +/- 4,500 tpd Optimal number of WTE facilities 6 x 750 tpd Electricity produced 45 MW x 6 = 270 MW (gross) Net Electricity produced 216 MW Construction Period ~ 22 months each - phased Contract Term 20 years GPEC Investment $220M each = $1,320,000,000 USD CIREMSA Mexico CIREMSA projects will help transform 4,500 tpd of post-sorted MSW into 216 MW (net) of electricity, while preventing this waste to turn into ±850,000 tons of CO2 over a 20-year GPEC project lifespan. Facility Design Gross Power Production 270 MW Total Performance Factor 93% Internal Load 35 MW System Net Capacity 216 MW Mexico Power Purchase Agreements • GPEC is looking for industrial/commercial offtakers for the power from its WTE facilities (standard 45MW plant): - 36 MW net per hour normally available; - estimated 295,000 MWh, annually; • Reliable source of renewable, baseload power 24/7: - potential exists to connect plant power output directly to clients facilities; - modular GPEC plant design improves availability (93% avg.) • Power provided at discounted rate to clients current weighted average LyFC / CFE price for power Mexico Power Purchase Agreements • PPA sets conditions of formal supply / offtake of electricity for a period of 15-20 years • Tultitlan WTE Plant commissioning scheduled for mid-year 2010 • GPEC to invest $220,000,000 USD to build a standard WTE 45MW Plant (Finance-Build-Own-Operate model) “ Energy Production; perfected! ”
