The Means –
o The Three Jewels
o The Noble Eightfold Path / The 4th Noble Truth
The Noble Eightfold Path describes a way of escaping
the suffering expressed by the first 3 Noble Truths.
It’s a practical set of instructions about how to deal
with Tanha. They are supposed to cover all problems
and possibilities in life.
Extreme Moderation
The basic idea of the Eightfold Path is to avoid extremes.
It’s called ‘the middle way’ and means you should avoid
having too much or too little of anything – instead you
should have everything in moderation.
Too Little
Just Right
Too Much
Take money for example. Too little makes life very hard, but too much
brings problems. Maybe you spend all your time worrying about your
money, or you might not know if you’re friends really like you for you.
You will now be given a set of different possible
Noble Truths. You have to decide which eight are
the real ones.
