MANAGEMENT PREPAREDNESS
• Disaster Risk Management involves an integrated approach by all
Disciplines, as well co-operation from the General Public
- our motto – Disaster Risk Management is everybody’s business
• DRM has a pro-active phase and a re-active phase
• Pro-active phase = hazard identification, risk and vulnerability
assessment, planning, preparedness, disaster risk reduction and
mitigation
• Re –active phase = disaster response , relief, recovery, rehabilitation and
reconstruction.
• Municipal DRM is linked to the Event’s Safety & Security strategy

• CoCT DRMC staff have participated in 2010 FWC Planning Teams – the
focus being co-ordinating the incorporation of disaster risk reduction
aspects into all Disciplines’ preparedness and response initiatives
• 2010 FWC Strategic Disaster Risk Management Plan has been
formulated in line with National and Provincial guidelines – this Plan is
linked to the CoCT Safety & Security Plan for the Event

• SAFETY AUDITS ARE BEING CONDUCTED AT THE 2010 FWC
VENUES BY DRMC AND FIRE & RESCUE SERVICE STAFF

FORMULATED
• COMMUNITY & VISITOR EDUCATION CAMPAIGNS I.R.O. DISASTER
PREPAREDNESS & REPORTING OF EMERGENCY INCIDENTS –
ARE BEING UNDERTAKEN JOINTLY WITH CoCT COMMUNICATIONS
WORKGROUP
• ESTABLISHING EVENT MONITORING MECHANISMS AND
PROTOCOLS
• INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS REGARDING STRATEGIC
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN MAJOR ROLE PLAYERS PUT IN PLACE
