fires in livestock, poultry storage, barns,
stockyards, and animal pens were reported to
municipal fire departments annually.

eradication

Livestock Welfare Disposal Scheme
◦ Cost estimate over $10 billion

soldiers involved at the peak of the outbreak
“If a flood, power outage, winter storm,
disease outbreak, drought,
terrorist incident, fire, or other
DISASTER hit my farm or ranch today,
would I still be in business
next month ?”

 Preparedness
 Response/Mitigation
 Recovery
Preparedness enhances
a business's ability to recover from:
– financial losses
– loss of market share
– damages to equipment or
products
– business
interruption.
Constraints of Preparedness
• Often businesses believe they
do not have the time, people or
money to prepare their
business
• Too much emphasis is placed
on dramatic, worst-case
scenarios – as if these were the
only possible disasters which
may occur
NO COST SOLUTIONS
